I'm still leary of drilling a hole in the TP. [highlight]Were you not able to loosen the antenna and run the wire behind that?[/highlight]
I started to notch the rubber mounting pad, thinking I would run it down and out thru the small space around the antenna "shaft".  I did not like having to pinch the wires coming out.  So I stopped with the "notching".  (After you take the antenna apart you will see what I am talking about.)

I decided that once I "stick" the strip on, the leather will be damaged if I ever have to remove it (knock on wood!) so what's wrong with a small pin hole in the leather?
After a few measurements I realized that a hole just above the rectangular plate held in by the nut and star washer, and comes out right where the end of the strip is attached to the leather. (this was the 14.7" strip that I ordered.)  The hole in the tour pack shell is no bigger than the shrink wrap (7/64th bit).  In fact I had to heat up the wrap to shrink it just a little before it would slip through.  I used an awl to poke a small hole 1/16" above the rubber mounting pad (you can't see the wire from the outside at all).
With the antenna out, I carefully found the exact center of the existing 1/2" hole for the antenna to line up with the end of the strip lite and found that location of the 7/64th" hole I drilled was only 1/16" off center of the antenna core center.
Depending on the length of your strip, all this could change, but my strip is centered perfectly between the two antenna mounts.  As much as I tried to make a straight line when tacking the strip down (only one shot at that), I ended up with a bit of a "smile". [smiley=oops.gif]
Good luck with your install.
(I went to Fry's electronics to get the 4' length of 1/8th" shrink wrap so my wires were completely covered.)

Well thanks again for the info. The last post helped alot. I ordered just what you said, the 14.7. I'm gonna follow this exactly as you have described. I did notice your  :) 'happy' face. But that is what makes it special.
I'm just gonna take it real slow.

Not sure what the 14.7 standard is so check yours to see where it all lines up.  You never know, I could have 14.8 [smiley=nervous.gif].  I used some clear box tape to hold everything up while taking my measurements before drilling.  As noted in one picture, I started one pilot hole then remeasured and changed it up.   Glad I checked 2nd time. Who's "Bright" idea was this anyway?!!!  My wife saw the invoice sitting on the desk and asked which charges were for the little 12" inch strip of lights? [smiley=furious3.gif]  I corrected her and said 14.7!  She laughed and said she liked the higher visability.  I also purchased the Retro Kit for the tail light at $118.75.

That's like when I had been to the gun shop and bought some Swarovski Binos.  Wife saw it and new I had recently purchased a couple of rifles.  She said the rifles were less than she thought they'd be.  I said what are you talking about, she said she saw the gun shop receipt, Oh I said....that was for binoculars.

She said she wouldn't ever look at my receipts again.

Don't you love it when a plan comes together [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I just got back in. Working late tonight.
I line up the "little bright lite" and could see how easy is is to wind up with a 'smily' when installing. The clear would probally look better w/ the smoked lights but the red looks more 'stock'.
Ya'll sure can help a guy spend $$$. AJ

AJ...take a flexible straight edge, like a metal ruler, and lay it accross the two brackets with the tourpak lid up, then get a soft lead pencil and mark a line on the leather...it's hard to see, but will give you a reference point to get it as straight as possible.

This second pic is of the interior of the tourpack, I went ahead and got shrink tubing large enough to cover the thing-a-ma-giggie that makes it both run and brake... I'm sure you all appreciate my technical/electrical knowledge of all the parts!  ::)

The third picture is of the exterior with the antenna mount, per Terry's instructions, I made a groove in the gasket for the wires.
