Floor board spacers
« on: November 29, 2005, 11:00:40 PM »

I have done a search on spacers for the front floor boards and am not having much luck.  I know this has been posted before, does anybody know where I can get these spacers?

The little things are marketed as "extenders" not spacers.  So that's how they often got described in discussion before.  FWIW, I was a slow believer and a late convert.  Just didn't quite believe that such a little amount of spacer could make much difference to the feel in the saddle.  I was wrong.  They don't suck; at all.  For the small price they do a totally surprising amount of good to your comfort in the seat.

They were pretty regularly discussed in the "must have changes for SEEGs" thread a year or so ago.  It's a long thread though.  So you might have to do a fair bit of wading to find the places where they wandered in and out of the discussion.  That thread is here:

The parts themselves, however, were available from Kuryakyn or similar kits from a few other sources.  All doing the same thing though.  Here's a link to the Kuryakyn parts kit:

Kuryakyn part number for the front floorboard extenders is 450, they take maybe 40 minutes to install. Really helps get your legs out away from the 103 heat generator and makes for a bit more air flow in strategic places.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I also installed their passenger heel guards (#7896) to get keep the guess-teemators feet away from the Rineharts, maybe a 10 min job.

FWIW, my previous bike had Rineharts with the extenders, but after some motor mods, which included a CV51 carb, I needed more room for my right leg. Went down to a local bolt and tool place. They had exactly what I wanted for about 40 cents apiece. The looked just like the ones that came with the Rineharts.

Hey Joe,  I assume extending the floor boards out a little increases the chances of dragging the floor boards on a turn.  Have you had any issues that?

I have the Kuryakyn extenders on my 08 SEUC.  They are great.  As 2Lane mentioned, they make a noticeable difference.  I suppose the footboards are a little easier to drag - I was dragging the footboards before I installed anyway.  I thought that's what footboards were for anyway - that's why they are "bolt-on" ;)

Porthole do you step on your floorboard to climb on and off the bike??

I tend to stand up on the right board and then put my left foot over the seat to get on and was wondering if the extra long bolts and the leverage put on them would be strong enough to hold me up (225 lb...OK 240....alright already 250 lb) :o

Maybe grade 8 bolts instead of stainless would add some strength.

Any noticeable floorboard scraping on the twisties.

My guess is that allen heads are used because of the limited room at the mounting locations.

Spacer part numbers at McMaster Carr

2"   92510A832
1.5"   92510A829
1"   92510A826

1/2" 316 stainless Allen head screws

2.5"   92185A722
3"   92185A724

Rockwell Hardness      B70
Minimum Tensile Strength   70,000 psi
Thread Fit      Class 3A

The screws are 1/2", fairly hefty.
I do not stand on the floorboard to get on and off.

I did a little more scraping after extending the boards, but you can compensate for that somewhat with the way you ride. And I have since raised my bike to "normal" height and I no longer scrape.

The increased comfort far outweighs the occasional scrape in my opinion.

How do you do that..... unless you are riding as passenger?  :nixweiss:
