Just got a Screaming Eagle 110" Kit for my 2010 96"
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:46:37 PM »

Hello everyone,

I was hoping to get some unbiased advice about upgrading my new 2010 Wide Glide (the one with the flames) with the Screaming Eagle 110" kit. If I do it within the first 60 days of ownership the upgrade will fall under the 24 month warrantee, otherwise its all warranted for 90 days. The bike is currently stock, I bought it with plans of upgrading the engine, but I've read about people having issues with the 110" setup so I'm now having second thoughts.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Greg

CQCBlades,

I would go to a 103 and if i just had to go bigger and were to cut the cases i would go 113, but I wouldnt go 110 unless you had the crank pinned / balanced / trued etc when you did it and you used Axtell pistons / juggs or Rev Performance.   Historically they havent yet proven themselves yet imo.   Best of luck with your new bike.

I could go with the Screaming Eagle 103" or the 110", but I want to stick with Harley kits to keep the warrantee intact for now. Do you feel the 103" is a better setup? The price difference in the two is negligible.

Thanks,

Greg,

Check the site out for yourself, you very very seldom here of anyone with issues with the 103 motors from the 03-06 SEEGS or Ultras etc.  There are several nice bolt ins for them and plenty of hop ups you can do later if you are so inclined.   Harley thought it was such a good idea they brought it back in the limited edition of the ultra, to me that says a lot.

Hopefully some others will chime in and you can then make up your mind which way you would go.

Great input thanks, would you go with the cranks (stage II) or just the regular stage I setup?

I would most likely consider the most they would give me that they would cover under warranty.   You can get away with a few different cams depending on your riding style like the 211 or the 257 since you have a lighter bike, and dont need all the grunt off the line like the baggers do.   Biggest thing you will have to contend with is picking the right pipes / cams combination.

The 103 kit should be a lot less money and not just negligible, you dont have to tear down the motor it is simply juggs, pistons and cam change.   The 110 should be considerably more money due to milling and taking the crank out.   If you didnt mind spending the money then you might consider doing the 103 and getting the crank done for piece of mind anyhow.

The stage 2 103" is $895 and labor is $800 but it doesn't include the "heavy breather" which is an extra $295 (and something I want), The 110" kit is $1695 (for everything) and labor is $1200, + ECM remap for $150 for either one - so the total difference is only $2895 - $1990 = $900.

Since you were willing to spend that 900 bucks you might consider getting the crank and timken done, if you do the 110 you still should consider the timken bearing and the crank work.

My understanding was that you have to stay with all the stock 110" kit upgrade parts (nothing non-Harley) to get the warrantee, but I'll call the dealer tomorrow to verify.

If your going to split the cases go for the 113 and have the crank work done but Rev or Darkhorse and do the Timken conversion. You will have a solid foundation to build from. If you do not want to spend the added $'s for the Crank work and Timken then stay with the 103.

I believe the only two options from Harley are the 103 Stage 1 or 2 (with or without cams) and the 110" with cranks. Everything else would void the warrantee.

The 96", 110" and 113" all use the 4-3/8" stroke crank so no new crank is needed for your build. If you are talking about "street legal" kits then you are correct they only have the 103 and 110. I would still go with the 113 and have your flywheels worked.

Yes you are correct I'm talking about the street legal kits as they are the only ones they warrentee and its a brand new bike, so would you get the 110" Screaming Eagle kit if it was your only option?

My initial response would be no, I would stay with the 103 if you need to upgrade.  If you do go with the 110 do definetly have the crank and timken conversion done since the cases will be apart for machining anyway.

I wouldn't even consider doing a 110 with HD's kit.  It has all the junk pieces they used to build the factory engine - and I have one so am not just going on what I've heard.
