So finally we are moving forward.  Warranty company approved just under $8k for a complete rebuild.  A new motor is still more expensive.

The rebuild starts with cases, crank, cylinders and the lsit goes on.  Now the prcess of egtting all the parts starts.  Cases & Crank have to go to HD because they are CVO before they will ship new ones.  Hope to see the bike sometime this year.

In the meantime I got a loaner MC to ride, it will help me relieve my anger over the SE....

Somehow I find it hard to believe that a rebuild including the cases and crank is cheaper than a crate motor, or at least a "short block" (no heads).  You can buy a complete CVO 103 for $6400 retail according to H-D's own catalog, hard to believe a 110 would be more than $1600 more. :nixweiss:

Who is supplying the loaner, H-D, the ESP, or the dealer?  And what about the month of use you've lost so far, plus how ever long it takes to actually get all the parts and put the bike back together?  If this is the way the Harley endorsed ESP works, I'm glad I never wasted the money.

A new 110 for this machine sells for $6,400.

I just realized that the catalog item I posted is a mixture.  Title says 1690cc, 103A, but the text talks about 110", 4.0" bore, 255 cams, etc.  Time to hire that proof reader again.

dj, considering the $6400 retail price versus the $8000+ repair price, does this seem rational to you?  I thought for sure this would have been a no brainer back when the original problem and diagnosis was posted; new engine.  I'm amazed.

There must be a different price, catalog SE 103 vs a CVO 103 motor.  The CVO 103 is still $1800 more than the Catalog motor.

Anyway, nedless to say this won't be an all HD motor.  Brad at Freedom is doing his magic.

I agree; something seems to be missing. The lead time on a replacement is 3 days + shipping. R&R is no big deal. Based on what we know at this point the solution doesn’t make much sense. We’ll see what things look like after a couple more iterations.

The retail price of the OE replacement is $6,400.

So the end of the saga was today.

I picked the bike up from Yuill Bros today.  Brad did a great job on the bike.

Basically a complete new motor, the only thing that was reused were the heads and only the heads & exhaust valves.

So  new cases, crank assy, cylinders, Yuill Pistons, YB13 gear drive cams, larger intake valves, head porting, new springs & retainers.  Billet cam plate, late model oil pump kit.  Then the Yuill Bros Exhaust was also added.

Ran real well coming home.  Now to go break it in & then back for the Dyno work.

So glad I took it to Brad rather than HD.

Spent the evening cleaning, you know it must be clean to ride it.

In the long run you got a much better motor than your stock motor. The only thing you should have done was have the flywheels trued and welded. But you still did very good in the deal. Good luck with it!

Patients was worth it.  The final Chapter

Have been waiting for the SERT to come back from TTS upgraded.  It finally arrived.
Dropped off the bike this morning for Brad to finish the Dyno work now that is it boken in.  Picked it up this afternoon.

End result 104 hp & 113.5 torque  The torque curve hits 100 ft lbs at 2500rpm and doesnt drop below 100 until 5500.

I will scan & post the curve.

Seat of the pants is awesome.

Brad did an awesome job!

Good numbers and I know you feel it when you twist the wick.  You should be a happy camper about now. :2vrolijk_21:

So how's Trudy's Ultra coming along?  Are you getting it suited for her?

See you two real soon.
