Mine has shut down once.  I had left the bike at the dealership over the winter to replace the heads and heated grips.  When I picked it up in the spring I made it about 5 or 6 miles and it suddenly shut down as you describe.  After a few attempts I got it running and returned to the dealership to speak with the service manager as I had a 110 mile ride home in front of me and was pretty reluctant to head down the road.  Long story short the mechanic could not find any faults when diagnosed!  The SM said that he had seen the same thing on two other 110's and it was after sitting in storage throughout the winter months.  It hasn't given me any trouble since (knocking on wood) so perhaps there is something to it, although it doesn't really explain why it happened in the first place.  If anyone ever really finds out what is causing this please post the definitive results!  Mine is put away for the winter now and will have to wait until next spring to drag it out.  That's the drawback to living in the interior of Alaska, a very short riding season.

My 2008 flhtch/110 engine did it 3 times on the way home 1st day of purchase, not while running, but wouldn't start for a while after shutting off.  The 4th time it never would restart.  All electrics worked fine and you could hear the click from the fuel pump when you turn it on but not the normal sound of the fuel pressurizing.  Dealer picked it up, later said it was a bad connector--but why could you still hear the click?  3 months later, 1,000 miles from home, it shut off on the freeway and would not restart while coasting to stop--   then restarted after 5 minutes.   Did it several more times before getting home and skippin rest of planned ride--once wouldn't restart for 45 minutes.  Dealer couldn't duplicate but found a wire with tension on it--same thing-why could you still hear click?  Worked fine for 18 months and 15k miles (except for failure of the fuel shell which exhibited very different symptoms) until today when it wouldn't restart after a rest stop.  It did start at first then sputtered as it burned the fuel that was there when I shut it off, but never fired again except when we sprayed starting fluid into the induction chamber.  I feel like it is a bad fuel pump--all the other electrics work and you can hear the click and soft whine when turn on ignition, but not the normal sound of it pressurizing the fuel.  What gives?

I have a very similar problem on my '85 EG. 1st time it went dark on me was in the middle of a 13 mile tunnel in Switzerland in '98. It has been intermittent ever since. Sometimes going months and months without a hiccup until recently. The it decided to return with a vengence Every few miles and onthe same ride that I popped the clutch finger. Right now we are restringing the main harness, checking ground connections and replacing all the 25 year old circuit breakers and relays.
My thought is just change out anything in the path that could cause a total loss of juice. I don't want to over think the reset issue, as everyone has an opinion and experience. Fortunately it is an '85 and is relatively straight forward. But no matter the decade, these problems are an effing pain!

Okay, so the guy doing the work, cleans up the harness and finds some loose grounds. Tightens things down and brings the bike back, all "fixed". Also brings back my bag with the breakers "didn't need 'em, if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Off I go for the test ride, of course up on Blue Ridge Mountain Road, no place to pull over, it starts cutting out again. Last time I test things like this on 2 lane twisties!  Get back home, change out the Main Breaker from the bag, and haven't had a problem the last 700 miles... rear brake, well that's another story under development

Well I have discovered that the Eng will shut down on me when I back it up and turn my handle bars to the right. The engine also shuts down if I make a tight u-turn to the right. I believe this is tied to the shutdown and I believe it is in the handle bars because of all the times they have worked on my heated grips. Weather is too nice here in Tucson to put it in the black hole so I will wait till we get to our rainy season.

I had the SMALLEST breach of an internal wire in my handlebars.  Drove me nuts!  Kept blowing fuses but once I found it life was good.  Keep at it Sherlock!!

The issue with mine is it won't blow any fuses or fault codes it just shut's the motor down.

I had this problem on a 2003 ultra and it turned out to be the relay. HD had done a recall and installed a 30 amp relay, I believe and the relay would heat up and trip, which in turn shut off everything! After a few minuted, you could fire it up and away you go. I pulled out the relay and installed a 50 amp mega fuse. No further problems.

So the guy at the shop told me today that the fuel pump is fine--full pressure & everything.  I said it wasnt when you picked it up and he replied that the mechanic pulled the fuse to check it, it was fine so put it back in then fuel pump worked again.... that doesnt do me any good when pump quits working on the dragon or similar roads!!!!

My 08 CUSE just did just what Kaspr did on a 250 mile trip today.  I was 180 miles into my trip and doing about 65 mph pulling up a hill and WHAM!  Just like ya hit the kill button.  I grabbed more throttle but just got nothing but an altered intake noise.  As I slowed, the motor picked back up, and I pulled in the clutch and she idled normally.  I came to a stop on the shoulder and she sat and idled totally normal.  I did not notice any "check engine" light on the dash.  I shut the bike off and was looking it over, almost expecting to see a blown head gasket or something.  I was 70 miles from home at the time.  The bike restarted normally and ran fine all the way home, and at speeds and similar conditions where it failed before.  I even ran it harder trying to see if something would fail, like a collapsed vent line or whatever.  Nothing, purred like a kitten all the way into the garage.  I even stopped on my way home and filled up the tank thinking it may have been bad gas, even though it acted more like an electrical issue.
I'll take it to my dealer for a look-see for a historic DTC, but from what I read on this forum, I don't expect anything.
The ONLY thing that has been touched on the bike is I loosened and tightened the right switch screw to install a Formotion thermometer (I dumped my dash air temp gauge a long time ago for an oil temp gauge in its place).  This is the switch box with the kill switch...hmmm could it be?  But why just once.
BTW, my bike has 24K miles.

It has to be a connection in the relay or in the fuel pump itself--the rest of the electrical system on the bike doesn't shut down, just part of the pump.  They won't replace the pump cause they can't find the problem!

Well, my local dealer had the bike for 2 days attempting to find the cause of the mysterious one-time shutdown.  Since shutdown, no DTCs were found and after about 230 more miles put on the bike, no repeat of the fault has occurred.  Maybe the planets were just in the wrong alignment that day?!?!

Picked up my bike and the dealer showed me the Digital Tech printout of checked parameters....all normal.  They also checked wiring harnesses.  Ran about 100 moremiles today, eventless.  Time will tell.

               That's what I'm afraid of with me taking the bike in to the Harley Black Hole. I did discover that if I back my bike up and turn my handle bars to the right the motor will shut down. If I only cycle the fuel pump switch and don't turn the main ignition switch off the bike will start but I have no control over the throttle. It will just sit there and idle. I then have to shut the bike down and cycle the main battery switch on and then turn fuel pump on and it will start right up. At that point I have control of the motor with the Throttle. WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
