I echo all of the above.  I bought a 05 Heritage, put a binch of $s into it and after 1 year sold it to get a red SEEG.  I took a bath on the Heritage, and like you, got it out of state, had to truck it, etc.  I have no regrets whatsoever and wouldn't trade this bike for anything else that HD offers.  Plus I can get the $s back if I sell it, not like the Heritage.

Dave, I truly understand how you feel. I go through a buyers remorse every time I make a purchase that's not "necessary" Believe me, since I put my deposit on my SEU, I've had almost 5 months to rethink my decision. I've thought many times that a lesser bike would do just fine. I think sometimes we have to remember that this is not wives or girlfriends here. I mean we're not marrying these bikes. If we are unhappy, they can be sold or traded. In my opinion, it seems like you are financially able to pull this off without problems, so buy it, and if your not happy later, it can be sold for little if any loss. Good luck and enjoy. Life is too short.

Jeff -- Good to hear from you.  Your reply came in as I was writing my last one.  The logistics of this sort of acquisition can be a bit imposing; the worst part for me right now, I think, is that coordinating all of this falls at chore-filled time of the year.  I have little time to daydream about what a cool thing I'm trying to do. But I can't sit still and risk this Cherry being picked by someone else.  I think all important purchases should have some adventure surrounding them--a real story to tell, rather than having the thing simply fall in your lap.  So, Jeff, I think you did me a favor by making me have an adventure if I get the bike.  No need for guilty feelings.

But wait a minute, if Twolanerider is right, then maybe there isn't really a Jeff anyway.  So, Hubbard and Otis, which one of youse guys done stoled my Cherry when it was sittin 10 minutes from my house??  You two really must have a lot of time on your hands to have created this virtual world full of different characters.  An interesting thought....and very frightening.

  I agree the SEEG's are good lookin' Machines.  I agree that CVO's retain their value more than other models.  However, every Harley I have owned and sold, I got my price.  Doin' a trade with the Stealers is askin' for it, IMO.  If you are like most Harley riders, regardless of the Model you purchase, there will be considerable added expense, in molding it to your personality, and your personal performance quirks.  I have a SEUltra on order, now.  I haven't totally convinced myself into taking it yet, but have a friend on stand-by for it, if I don't.  I know I won't be able to leave it alone, and it will cost buku bucks to make it perform to the level I am accustomed too.  I would have to differ with some of the statements made about the SEEG rides better than any other Harley.  I've ridden a SEEG and a SERG.  They ride good, but not as good as my Ultra.  But that's me.  My Ultra may not ride as good to them.  As for performance, I assure you, it will not take $6000.00 worth of parts and labor to make a 88" Motor go by a 103" like it was sittin' up on Jack Stands!  BTW, you'll spend some money to wake up a stock 103".  They ain't no ball of fire!  You asked for thoughts, and that's some of mine.  Doesn't make me right, and I emphatically retain my right to be wrong.  Pleasure and Speed cost money.  How good do want to feel, and how fast do you want to go?  There endeth the lesson.  Welcome to the Site!  Later--HUBBARD

I tend to have practical views mixed with champagne tastes.  Very conflicting.  Typical OCD personality.

The practical side of me always wanted a Gold Wing, and I found a deal I couldn't pass up.  However, every time I ride it, I just wish it was a Harley.  It is my personal preference.  It's in my blood.

What you have to ask yourself, is why do YOU want one.  What is it about a Harley that has brought you to the point where you have researched them and even bought a ticket to go look (and probably but one)?

For me, it's the personal appeal that comes from the power, the sound, the feel.  Some people just don't care for it and they opt for Honda's or BMW's.  Some don't like the stigma or how they think the neighbors will react to a Harley starting up at 6-7 AM or rumbling through the neighborhood during their dinner parties.

If none of that bothers you and you still want one, then consider whether or not you want the best.  You seem to be an enthusiast.  Like you have heard here, (I have to take their word for it) but it sounds like you won't regret it.  I decided to hold out until I could afford the CVO.

Think about having it now or waiting until when? I found my bike 1400 miles away. After finding that it would be about a month before I could have it home by shipping, inclement weather approching etc. I was heading for New Jersey the next day. It was a long drive full of thoughts of what am I doing? Why didn't I buy a road king locally? etc.etc. and not alot of moral support from the wife. I arrived to pick the bike up two days later. I drove it from the shop to the trailor and knew right then that I had done the right thing. I had what I wanted and had it now! The drive home seemed half the distance! I am thankfull that I made the decision that was right for me, even though I had the hassell and expense of going to get it NOW! ; [smiley=jalapeno.gif]D

Mikey --  I'm lucky being single and significant other-free at the moment in the sense that I don't have another's 'opinion' to factor into the equation.  I seem to be throwing enough rocks in my own path...funny thing is, if I did have a significant other who was pretty negative about the whole CVO escapade, I have the feeling this thread would have started out a lot differently....  That's part  of the fun of being human, I suppose.

Speaking of fun--here's the response of the friend of mine I mentioned earlier to my note to him about taking a trip on Friday to scope out a red 2005 SEEG:

"...hope your screaming eagle is nice--if not, your '05 electraglide police is here in my garage, 900 miles now, put the 103" screaming eagle kit on it, retail is 3k, think i can get for $2600, another $600-700 for labor, full warranty when done by harley dealer on a bike still under warranty...you'd have enough money leftover to put a 6 speed in and still buy a new kia for your next girlfriend..."

A 6 speed AND a Kia...I love that guy.  He's got more $$$ in his sofa cushions than I have in my 401(k), but you'd never know it from his spending habits.

Oh you guys are really hilarious.  "Mrs. We" seems to work.  The name is a long story.  But I gotta say that there is nothing funnier than being in a parking lot where a hundred or so of your best friends are hanging out and you get a Great Big! and Loud!
