And what did they do about the front tire...refund coming?

Don't know.  They faxed the claim form today.  HD Customer Service was closed.

Sounds like they (MoCo) needs to be either making payments on a bike while it sits and/or providing a bike to ride while they have hostage of owners bike. :sauer005:

My frontal collision happened a little over a month ago on my 2010 SESG.  The 50mph straight on collision bent the frame at the saddle and made a half-moon dent in my tank when it flexed at impact but no fuel leak.  Local HD says they have never seen a tank bend like that before....

Tank bent? Must be the new and improved frame.  On the bright side.  Due to the frame absorbing some of the impact it probably helped benefited you in the accident.

If you are able to type this to us, then let the freakin' tank bend.  50 mph straight on collision?...I'm happy to see your words appearing here after that.  I guess the bad thing would be if the bike landed on you and the tank leaked and then you caught on fire.  That would rank up there in the top 10 bad days.

They way it is described in the material and posted on the H-D website, I cannot imagine that it would be only a couple of bikes. Stuff like that happens thoroughly. But, and I don't mean that as an excuse or something, as it was written here before, when one crashes head-on, one couldn't care less about he tank.

Ride safely,

if getting whacked in the front wheel is going to bend the frame clear at seat...

ooooo that could bend just hitting a curb... or a big speed bump in the dark - or hitting a damn deer - at least a good percentage of the time when you smack something like that you recover enough to stop or slow way down before it goes over - if the damn frame bends & the tank looks like that there is no f'n recovering. and if gas gets out the rider and the deer will both be covered in foamed gas.

glad you are ok - but the ins co's usually total any bike with any bend in the frame...

ewwww - this worries me, just a bummer.

evidently all new frames fall under this recall.

Nicest reaction this side of the pond came from H-D Bonn's chief-tec:

"I don't read american forums. They write a lot of nonsense over there. Go and ask the people you bought your bike from."

(the bike actually was bought and importet from UK)

 ;D

when I look at the pic of grinners tank there seems to be not a small chance that depending on how much fuel is in it it may spray all over the rider if the tank breaks open at this point.

I'm afraid cause of this recall was a very serious incident somewhere not very long ago as

1. this is already a NHTSA-matter before Harley even has a repair kit or a formal service-bulletin

2.frames as lately built as November 19 are metioned , so they know for certain just since a couple of weeks

3. dealers must be quite afraid of this thing if they won't let you ride away with your bike unrepaired on their own responsibility.

I believe there are some more bad news to come  :-X

No letter whatsoever is necessary. Find out with your service manager, when the parts are coming in and schedule your appointment.

As usual the letter will arrive in about 3 month ( after you and your dealer fixed the issue )  ;)
