Im assumeing you have the length of the warranty to get the recall done, I looked at the brackets, under normal conditions they would never cause a problem, I will wait until I have some other service that needs to be done and have it attended to then. I can remember in the 50.s when sporster gas caps would vibrate loose and splash the rider with gas, nobody got to concerned.

Unlike the earlier "Product Enhancement" campaigns, this is a for real, honest to goodness SAFETY RECALL.  Therefore, there is no requirement to have it completed during the warranty period, the recall remains in force for the life of the product.

Since there is no definitive information on just how this defect was found (actual crash versus crash testing/simulation), I would be inclined to have the recall performed ASAP.

Leave it to Harley riders to worry more about how the modification might "look" instead of possible self-immolation after a crash (see earlier posts in this thread).  For those who assume they wouldn't survive a crash serious enough to cause the tank to rupture, and who intend to be cremated anyway, I guess an argument could be made for cutting out the middleman at the crematorium.

Talked to my dealer today, He said the first of the repair kits available will go for the bikes on the show room floor. No biggy to me since its winter in MI and I won't be riding till April anyway. When Spooky comes out of winter hibernation we will head to the dealership for a tune and the fix.

I shall stay tuned and learn more from y'all

That's funny.
The first ones to my dealer go on customer bikes.
The thought was the customer bikes were being ridden not sitting on the showroom floor.
It's very doubtful the showroom bikes would be involved in a crash.
Hard to argue with that thought process.

I guess the kits would go on the show room floor bikes first cause, they can't sell'em without the kit. Whatever, I just say'n. I guess if I pushed the issue I could make it happen but it aint no skin off my nose who gets them first. After seeing that wrecked SESG I'm not to worriedabout it. Go for it! Make since to me that if your out there riding Harley would want you to have the fix.

Hmmm, can you imagine how this accident could have turned out for the rest of the chapter if the bike that impacted had blown up as a "great ball of fire" ...

It's not only your safety that you should be concerned about.

I will have the recall done as fast as the parts are availiable. My bike goes to the dealer Dec. 27 after the "Christmas Rally" for the recall, the cat removal and some other mods. But we usually can't ride over here anyway till end of january.

Had mine done yesterday (12/12/09) the dealer called and said the parts were in and it would take about 30 min.  Took the bike over and was talking to them, they are calling the bikes in to be fixed and fixing the ones in the show room when sold. My cousin just bought a new streetglide and they gave him an extra 250.00 store credit just because he could not take delivery until the fix was complete. I know a lot of you have problems with your dealer but I can say that mine has really been great to work with the past 5 years. HD of Lynchburg VA are really good guys, they take care of their customers.
