rotella has all the additives that all the other high pressure diesel oils have
its also rated specifically for turbo charged engines [cumins, etc] and supercharged engines [detroit etc]
its not dino oil - has not been dino oil since the 70's

ver on the VOA forum there was a debate about the zinc and phosphorus levels of the Rotella T 15W-40. I thought I'd e-mail Shell and ask what they claimed. Here's what they said:
"Shell Rotella T Multigrade Oil SAE 15W-40 with Triple Protection Technology, our API CJ-4/SM specification product, typically contains about 1200 ppm zinc and 1100 ppm phosphorous as manufactured."
How much variability there is in the manufacturing process I don't know. I've seen VOAs that more or less confirm that, and other VOAs show lower numbers. I suppose one could assume Shell is saying something they know not to be true, but I find it hard to believe they'd do that."
so in short - there are NO oils that are dino oils - they are ALL mfg oils and ALL contain synthetic components - you can pine for dino oil all you want but that wont make it true.
pure synthetics cant take more heat and take more cold - but they all lubricate and clean the same way - just change non pure synthetics more often and all is well. the oil change intervals for "normal" oil keep getting longer for a reason.
the nut of the issue is that 25 years ago there were companies making basically dino oils - but those days are gone - the line between pure synthetic oils and partial synthetic oils is getting smaller all the time.
