Man, this just keeps getting better and better.  Now people are coming out of the wood work with complaints about steering on the Corolla, and Toyota may be looking at another big recall.  I've been hoping for the past 20 years that American's and the brainwashed media folks would finally see through all the hype, but in my fondest dreams I never envisioned such a meltdown from those inscrutable folks in Japan.  People have been commenting for many years now about how parts of Japanese culture and society have become westernized, and now we have proof that it has spread to the corporate office suite's and boardrooms.  Dumb management is no longer just an American or European curse.

Go ahead, Toyoda, keep pushing to get bigger faster.  Funny thing about becoming number 1; the same people and media who overlooked your faults and sang your praises when you were #4 tend to become more critical when you reach the top spot.  How does it feel?

2010 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 6A)

Review

"Vehicle sat in the driveway all day due to a bad rainstorm. Wife drove 1 mile to go to a meeting after the storm and the check engine light came on. Engine would NOT TURN OFF even after turning the key to the "OFF" position. You could still place the vehicle in gear and drive with the steering wheel locked!! Will take to the dealership tomorrow (AM) per their request. This is not the dealerships fault, but the manufacturer!! Possible moisture in one of the electrical contacts?? The streets were almost dry when she left (no puddles to drive through). How could this happen on a vehicle with only 386 miles??? "

I'm just saying, it can and will happen to every brand.

................................................

I'm just saying, it can and will happen to every brand.

No argument from me Taz, I think I've stated somewhere in the past that the complexity of modern automobiles is such that all manufacturer's have issues pretty much all the time.  There is no such thing as a perfect, or even close to perfect, automobile.

The big difference, at least in my opinion, is that many have been painting a picture of Toyota as being this perfect company selling perfect cars for the past 30 years while intimating that the domestics were just the opposite.  What folks like Consumer's Reports and the other media types didn't report is the stuff that is starting to come out now.  Toyota has had many, many issues throughout the years, and has spent a lot of time and money covering them up.  And the general public, not being wise in either the technical side of the business or in the ways of the spin doctors, have fallen for the BS propaganda.  I just think it is very refreshing to finally see some of the truth come out.

I still remember back when I did a lot of traveling in my job for a domestic, and I tried as often as possible to rent competitive vehicles to get a better feel for features and quality.  I particularly tried to rent Camry's, as that was a direct competitor of the most popular car from my company, and I can honestly say I experienced just as many problems with the Toyota's as I did with my own brand.  Windnoise, rattles, driveability issues, fit and finish, etc.

Stay tuned to this story; now that the media and the U.S. government have finally taken off the blinders you are liable to learn a whole lot more about the highly secretive Japanese industry.

Do any of you ride on Commerical Airplanes ... Airbus perhaps or maybe Boeing??? Ever heard of "fly by wire?" Electrical nightmares have been created and now must be closely monitored and unfortunately highly regulated! :soapbox: Did ya ever hear about the aircraft that was coupled for an autoland but decided "it" wasn't ready to land yet? Yep, stuff like that still happens. Pehaps this "car" thing it all a conspirasy of the US automakers union?  ;)

I'm thinking that the new Harleys are following right along this automotive path as they have started introducing the electronics of the industry.  Fly by wire and other electronics are accidents waiting to happen on a mc.    :nervous: :o  JMHO.  spyder

It didn't run very long after the switch was off if they explain the rest of the story.   This can happen when water enters the vehicle in one specific area.  If conditions are right, (the sun, moon and stars align, it does happen in this business, lol) the vehicle can run until the fuel rail runs out of fuel. This will not run forever because the fuel pump is off, so fuel starvation will set in quickly. Its been identified, fixed and shouldn't be an issue again for anyone.

And we can take that to the bank, correct?

Hey, I've had many Government Motors vehicles in the past....and NONE of them were worry free. I had a 1500 that the water poured in the right side extended cab door. The worst of the last problems I had was taking off from a stop sign, and the truck would die in the middle of an intersection. Do you know what it's like to see a car coming at you at 50 mph, or getting rear ended by the guy behind you? Oh, it happened MANY time, but the dealer could NEVER find anything wrong. The 3rd and last one was cruising down the highway, and the gears in the transfer case blew out the side of the case with NO warning. That was 3 trucks, 3 major
problems.
Oh, I won't even go back to the 5.7 liter valve guide problem, or the transmission sticking in 2nd gear, that again the dealer couldn't find!
Again, All have problems. Let's move on.

Brad,
Forgot to ask you another question, how do you know the problem is fixed?
It seems this person just bought this car in Jan. 2010. The Traverse & it's
cousins have been out for well over 2 years. Have they had the problem in the past?

tazmun,
As I said, "the sun, moon and stars align, it does happen in this business", we strive to do the best we can and fix everything we find.  Sometimes we (you and I) can be our own worst enemy.  Here is an article that most H-D owners can relate to, do you know what a K&N (or any other reusable) air filter is?  I have one in th H-D, and my Tahoe.  My Tahoe has the issues as described here in this attachment.  I'm sure others also can relate.

There are so many factors in events that vehicles go through, look at software we use on computer each day, any issues?

Wisconsin has a very strict Lemon Law, do you think any mfr wants to have issues on a vehicle there?  We'll keep trying to do our best.

As far as the Traverse, it doesn't share production facilities with the "cousins," so if you want to understand that you need to do some homework.

Brad,

They used to make Tahoes in Wisconsin and Texas I believe, so you mean they to aren't the same.
My understanding was that the Traverse and it's cousins share everyting but sheetmetal.
I'm sorry if that's not correct. By the way, I think the Traverse is the best looking of the lot.

Used to make Tahoe's in Janesville, Wisconsin... Arlington, Texas... Silao, Mexico...

Now they only make Tahoe's in Arlington, Texas and Silao, Mexico....
