If you're having to ask that question regarding any particular tuner you're not likely to get a good tune there.  It's not as if they're intentionally doing a crap job (most of the time).  They're just not skilled.

Have to call around.  Talk to other riders and see what their impressions have been.  Do the homework and find whomever is best within whatever radius you're willing to ride to get it done.

Too many tuners aren't worth a damn though.  Map loaders at best sometimes.  And even if they do more they either won't take the time or don't have the skills; even though they always think they do.

You normally don't... Find a good tuner in your area, ask around, What part of the world are you in?

It would if not tuned for it.  Popular misconception notwithstanding but current "higher octane" fuels are not really high performance fuels.  They do, however, have an additive package that helps against preignition and detonation.  So if you got pinging at 89 or 91 or whatever and you dropped back to 87 you would expect it to ping worse.

To use the lower octane fuel you need to first have the engine tuned while running that fuel.  Then you're good from that time on.  But you can't just drop in a tank of 87 and gain any improvement.

Dunmore is just outside of Scranton (PA).  Enough of the brethren here from that general area someone is likely familiar with a tuner that does good work and does so within a comfortable range.  Boys?
