Having a stock spare exhaust for my 08 FXDSE2 I decided to cheap out and see if I can't modify the baffles for a louder sound. After seeing what the exhaust goes through I see why stock pipes are so quiet! I

also was suprised to find out that the baffles have a Cat built into them

I would like some suggestions or replacement options if ya'll have any ideas, I and would like to keep the stock cans on the bike

Here is the Cat material. The chamber for it is about 2-1/2" id and the cat material is also 2" long.

After removing cat material I see down inside that there is a chamber below the cat about 1-3/8" id with 3/16" holes in it inside of the 2" od "main body" of the baffle.

After the exhaust gasses pass through them they have to pass through these.      Yes those holes are less than a 1/16" drill bit

The 1-3/8" chamber is essentially a pipe with a plug in the middle of it with a few holes drilled in it on either side of the plug running through a 2" pipe with multiple tiny holes drilled in in it. On the left side of

the plug, as the picture is oriented, there are even fewer 3/16" holes on the inner pipe than on the right side. Say 40 holes on the right 20 on the left.

On the outside 2" od pipe there are more tiny holes on the left than the right.

you have made a substantial improvement by removing The Cat Material, if you use a step drill bit you can neatly double the size of the bypass holes improving the flow, the one thing to watch when modifying a stock baffle is going overboard on the modification which creates a trashy chirping sound.

Doesn't anyone make a drop in baffle for the stock cans?   I have found a lot of different slip ons in a range of prices and manufacturers that have different baffles you can put in thier cans, but you would think someone would just make a darn baffle to replace the stock ones.

I am trying to find the same thing, only for my 09 fxdfse. So far the only thing I have found that may work is the Big City Thunder baffle for the Screamin' Eagle pipes. Have not tried it, but they may work out. The other option may be the Rineheart baffles, but not sure there either. Finally, there is a thread about a guy  named Dennis Corso who is a restoration guy in Ohio. I brought that thread back from the dead a few days ago. Check them out too.

though i have not heard these in person myself, i understand they they are still extremely loud, and there is bassically no difference between the Thunder Monster and the QQ, asside from the construction.

for me, straight pipes are too loud...i know i need a baffle of some kind.

There is a difference between the TM & the TMQQ, They are both loud but sounds like thats what you are looking for, If not stay away from them. The first set of the QQ i removed them from my pipes and cut the cone off, which made them same as the TM, They where way louder, Needless to say i reordered the QQ's and have been running them for well over a year now.

other research says that the Rush '28 series' baffles will slide right into the stock cans, with your choice of inner baffle diameter, but i have not called to confirm that these are the right ones. the larger, the louder. o, and the set of 2 baffles is only ~$65 shipped!

I'm not looking to go real loud.......just louder!  Still want to retain some back pressure for perfomance reasons but other than that I really appreciate the replys.  Still doing a lil research and every bit of input helps!!!
