ok, bike in the shop, for excessive oil consumption over a quart in 1000miles. what was found, valve guides = shot, cylinders= egg shaped, crank runout= .004, mileage = 5500.

After the engine is fixed you'll have to change your username....

I just did my 25K check and I will closely monitor this oil consumption. I did notice a bit of oil in the breather when I cleaned the air filter.

Well, I got my bike back on the 13th and rode just about 65 miles to home! She ran like a "New" bike but I have not been on it since! I am planning on logging some miles before the real bad weather sits in in this area! We shall see how it holds up!

I am in this same, less than elite, group. If a rebuild is done with the same prodcts and same specs, how do we avoid future failures?

Some of us chose to abandon the MOCO warranty and do the rebuild ourselves, with more reliable aftermarket parts.  The choice was to spend money and have a bike to ride (and not worry about catastrophic failures like fatboi 1959's friend experienced) - or not have a bike to ride and continually have to deal with MOCO customer service follies...

Sorry to hear. What's the game plan for repairs?

jim  :coolblue:
well looking at building it to a 117ci, getting the crank welded balanced, trued, and new bearings, new top end.
but my dealer is dropping the ball right now,  been sitting there for a month tore down and nothing else has been done to it. there are 3 CVO's sitting in their shop right now.

I my question was a little redundant because, why would   anyone rebuild to go thru the same thing down the road but now without a factory warranty? Going with the S and S 106 I think.

Here I'm thinking I'm the lucky one since my 09' SEUC hadn't had any issues yet. Well last week just after riding the Dragon, I started hearing a slight chirping sound. The sound was directly corelated to the speed of the motor. It got slightly worse over the next hundred miles. The next morning the bike woudln't start. Turns out I had a lifter go bad that had damaged the cams and oil pump. ESP took care of the repairs and I was back on the road in 7 hours. So much for being the "lucky one". lol

S&S doesn't make a motor that bolts into a 07 and up chassis...

You can have the dealer rebuild your motor under warranty....

You can rebuild the motor yourself (or pay someone to rebuild it) using superior aftermarket parts...

Or you can buy a JIMS 120, 131 - or the new MOCO 120 motor - which all bolt into a 07 and up chassis...

I don't know of anyone else that makes a bolt in replacement motor...

I rode an 08 Ultra with Jims 120 and it shook so bad the GM at my dealer even said don't even think about it; it will shake the nuts and bolts off every 6 months LOL...well I had to see for myself......he was right.....it was like having a non counterbalanced motor bolted directly to the frame!

Opee6969 what did they do to your motor that only took seven hours?? Did the pump have metal shaving from the bad lifter? I had a lifter go bad that sent metal shavings through out the motor and destroyed the pump! Interesting???

If what I'm reading is accurate, I have a failed lifter... which in all probability took out the cam.... possibly the oil pump.

Gonna see the dealership today... and see whats up.

Its been 5 days and I'm suffering withdrawl!
