You can mount it w/o drilling. It just not as "finished" looking as the drilled mounting. Still looks great tho! FWIW

While we're on the subject of fitment, can anyone tell me how to get the nut off the cover inside the rear fender that houses the license plate light plug??  Hopefully WITHOUT taking the rear wheel off??  I can reach it from underneath, but not sure there's enough room to get a wrench up there to turn the nut off.

No need to remove the rear wheel. I was able to use a short socket on a 1/4 drive ratchet to get the nut off the inside cover. Had it up on my J&S jack at the time, which made it easier to get to ...

Thanks Mike.  I knew my new Pitbull jack would come in useful real soon.  I'll try the short socket.

You will have to cut and splice.....this is one of the response i went with what i now have. I also like how the plate really lights up with the original light.

Everything is available from Harley to add a connector to the Kuryakyn so it plugs into the stock socket so you do not have to cut and splice.  It consiste of a couple of pins, housing and pin lock. Just solder and plug

Do you happen to know the HD part numbers for all the parts needed for this?  I have a 2012 coming next month and this is one of the items on the list for my first wave of mods I have planned.

I am trying to work on this very issue.

I had a 2010 CVO Street Glide with the Kury 9182 I installed.

Now I have a 2012 CVO Street Glide, the Kury is "in the house" BUT in reserching the parts list I found that the connectors and the pins are different.

I have the 2012 HD SESG Parts Manual and the Service Manual. I am trying to locate the correct 2012 pins. If I can't then I'll cut the ones off of the stock light and solder them on to the Kury harness.

I am told that the resistance changed since 2010. The 2012's are running LED's so the correct pins are very important.

Regards

Jerry

This is from Paul Yafee. Has anyone tried it ?

Universal Stealth III License Frame Kits
Harley did a great job designing the CVO Baggers. However, the License Plate looks like an after thought! No worries…Check out our plug and play Stealth III License frame kit! It will totally clean up the look of your CVO and do away with the horribly ugly light box that HD decided to include on your, “top of the line” custom bagger. They are direct bolt on for all 2009 and later HD CVO Touring models. Super clean, hidden LED’s in the frame to light your license, all hardware included and it even has an HD electrical plug installed for “true” plug and play installation. Available in both chrome and gloss black finishes.

Jerry, I would be interested in anything you find out on this.

Kuryakyn now has a version of the 9182 specifically for the CVOs and say it is for the 09 RG and 10 & 11 SGs.  Looks to be the same frame as the 9182 with just a different back plate.  Personally I like the original 9182 back plate, and is the one I intend on using on my 2012 when I get it.

Thanks

Lets be very clear here for you guys who are doing this mod for the first time;

1. The backing plate for the Kury AND Kury's Harley brand both Chrome and Black Will not work on the CVO's. Especially if you want the LED tag light option and to eliminate the stock tag light.

Now if you know different please post the part number here so I can see what it is.

2. This pin voltage issue is important to get right. if not you'll have a light on on the dash to wrestle with.

3. Drilling the fender and just using the tag frame has it's drawbacks if you do all four holes. The holes are not covered up if you reinstall the stock tag light and tag assembly.

To gain this advantage, you need to only drill holes inside the area of the stock rubber insulator for the tag assembly.

Also, you may want to re assess using the Kury tag bracket and not flush mounting just the frame to the fender.

This is all a personal taste thing of course. So whatever you decide will work for you.

I am going with the Kury tag frame close mount option this time. With all holes drilled inside the rubber insulator area.

REMOVING THE STOCK TAG ASSEMBLY--

1. Remove the tag from the frame.

2. Place painters tape all around the sides and bottom of the tag assembly to prevent scratches.

3. Remove the 2 screws at the top of the frame. This will allow the tag light connection bracket to drop down inside the fender and behind the rear tire.

4. Remove the 1/4" nut on the stud of the tag light connection backing plate and expose the connection.

5. Push the connection tab in on the tag light end and disconnect it from the backing plate.

6. While holding the tag and light assembly, gently rout the wire and plug throuh the hole in the fender and remove the assembly.

4. Disconnect the connection and gently slide

What's the part # for the new CVO lamp assy?

Kuryakyn part number is 3146.  But the lamp assy appears to be the same one as for the 8192 part number.  It also states on the Kuryakyn website that this new part number is for 09 RGs and 10 & 11 SGs CVOs.  They even say they are plug-&-play.
