Just received an email from Kuryakyn's technical support and they said, "The change from incandescent license plate light to LED will not make a difference in the wiring as it is not a turn signal and is still running of a 12V power source." This was in response to my inquiry about the new CVO license plate frame working on both the 2010 and 2011 CVO SGs.

Kuryakyn part number is 3146.  But the lamp assy appears to be the same one as for the 8192 part number.  It also states on the Kuryakyn website that this new part number is for 09 RGs and 10 & 11 SGs CVOs.  They even say they are plug-&-play.

http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/4145/Curved-License-Plate

OK you are partially correct. Kury is offering this product BUT NOT YET.

The scheduled release date is November 2011.

They said the online pictures should have said "Coming Soon" but they don't.

That's why there are no installation instructions on line that you can look at.

My own personal bet is you'll see it in October at BIKETOBERFEST in Daytona.

Also, there is a possible design flaw in the 3D picture rendering in that the tab on the bacling plate seems to be on the top and not on the bottom of the plate.  I am wondering if the chrome tab just stays there or it can be cut off if you don't elect to get the stock Street Glide type red light add on.

Interesting. Now I am not sure if I want the 9182 or want to wait for this setup.

Kury is trying to and will compete with the Paul Yaffe plate which is a beautiful with the exception that you have to remove it to change the plate and Yaffe does not answer their phones.  I was able to mount the 9182 to my 2010 without drilling by basically making a new backing plate that fit as close as possible.  The Yaffe, on the other hand fits the curve of the fender much better than the 9182 and covers the dimple.

Paul has been making that tag since 2009.

It was installed on a few 2010 CVO Street Glides that belong to members here.

One of the complaints as I recall was that the oval shape block out key numbers of the tag and a part of the sticker.

Also, the cost was more than a little more than the Kury product.

It's a matter of personal choice I guess.

Search this subject, many members have installed both and have pictures to guide you.

This is a Yaffe on my Krypto, I did a fair amount of massaging it to make it fit to my satisfaction.  As stated previous Yaffe has very very poor customer service (like almost none!)

Ok per the 2012 FLHXSE Parts Manual p/n 99433-12 you will need the following:

PAGE 112 and 113
74112-98BK    Socket Housing 2 way black
   74152-98        Socket Lock 2 way

PAGE 108
74190-98        Terminal Pin 16-20AWG this is the harness side. We need the other side from the tag which is
not listed anywhere.  I am going to assume it is 1 part number higher or lower.

This is for the Kury 9182 install on a 2012 CVO Street Glide.

They have had it listed since 09....it didn't start shipping until late 2010. I ordered it for my 2010 SESG and by the time I got it I installed it on the 2011!!

It is personal preference--I liked it because I didn't have to make any extra holes and it was plug and play with the wiring.

didn't have problems catching Yaffe on the plate, ordered and delivered as requested.

If you find problems on the phones it's probably because they hit all the big shows...

Email works well to send them a note.

I suspect the tab is supposed to be on the top and will need to be left there if you use this new back plate.  Based on the position of the mounting holes on the back plate it would appear without the tab on the top the hole in the fender for the wiring would be exposed.  I'm basing this simply on the picture above from Terra of the 2011 rear fender with the stock plate frame removed and the picture of the new back plate on Kuryakyn's website.  This is strictly a visual observation and not one based on actual measurements, as I posses neither the new frame or my new 2012 SG yet.

I wish Kuryakyn had moved the mounting holes down on the back plate so you did not require that, IMO, ugly tab on the top.  :(

Agreed on the ugly tab.  I still think it is on the wrong side (top) and not the bottom. Also, it is difficult to determine if you would buy the 3 light frame with out actually seeing it on the bike first.

I am curious what would happen if you just ordered the new one online---if it would show up at your door or not.

The tab I think coyld be easily removed with a saw or Demel tool if you got the plain frame with just the tag light.

I was considering just removing that tab too.  Unfortunately, it would appear they put the mounting holes too high up on the back plate which means the plate will sit too low on the fender leaving the hole for the wiring exposed above the plate.  :o

I do like my Yaffe plate but it was painful getting. They had offered it for ordering since late last year but the first shipments did not start until late Jan this year. They had a lot of manufacturing problems. The first one I received  had pretty bad welding on the weld nuts for mounting and one broke off. The second one I got had bad wiring for the LED. The third one worked fine and I think it looks good. The oval shape does cut off some of the plate but not much and so far traffic stops haven't mentioned that. It is tough getting hold of them but they do travel a lot and its a small shop.

What is behind the Yaffe plate to prevent marks on the fender? I am assuming a rubber mat.

I ordered mine last night. Yaffe employee said it should be shipped by end of the week.
