One week old, and my new baby vandalized!
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:44:08 AM »

Ok, I have to vent here, I know I'm not the only person this has ever happened to, but I bought my 2011 SESG on January 10th.  It was a day here in Raleigh-Durham where we were waiting on a snow/ice storm.  So my dealership got their truck, went to my house and picked up my trade-in (2009 SERG) and brought it back to their shop, swapped my RG mufflers to the new SESG, and then delivered the new bike back to my house.  (Kudos to them for being so good to me)  But since the storm eventually hit and buggered up our roads, I didn't get to ride the bike till this past Saturday the 15th.  So, I bundled up and took her out for a spin, and headed down to the dealership, (Ray Price HD/Triumph in Raleigh) for a quick trip and to get the bike's electric antenna looked at, (it doesn't pick up very well)  Long story short, I stopped at a restaurant/bar here in town on the way home and went in to see some friends, and when I get back outside to go home, there is about a 5-7" gouge dead-center on the front fairing, all the way through to the deep plastic/fiberglass (whatever it's made of).  Now I have to fork over ~ $700 for a new fairing, and it'll be a minimum of a 30-day wait time to get it from HD.  Man, am I ever steamed!

I mean, I work two jobs to afford this, I'm not some sort of condescending rich guy that has to have the latest-greatest stuff, but I do love my Harleys, and I work really hard to afford a new bike now and again.  And to have it less than a week and have someone take a knife to it just really gets to me.  I can't understand why someone would do that to a stranger's bike for no reason at all.  Sorry to dump this here on the CVO beeb, but I just had to type this out and get it out of my system.  For the meantime, I'm just going to have to ride the new bike with a big, deep, ugly gouge on the front fairing until the new one arrives from the factory.  Man does this ever bite the big one.

Ok, I'm feeling slightly better now, thanks for your time.

Sorry this had to happen to you and your new bike.  Some real nut cases out there.  Too bad you had to run in to one.

Dude! That is the most F**KED UP thing I ever heard of! I cannot believe someone would just do that out of the Blue! Do you have any pissed ex old ladies? Sounds like something a scorn Broad would do! You should check to see if there is any video around that area. There are so many cameras anymore maybe they were caught on tape. Regardless I feel for you Brother. My new 09 SERG got rear ended on the 3rd day I had it by some dumb woman in a mini van. So believe me I know that sick feeling. My trauma strained my relationship with this new bike. I seriously considered selling it. It took me  awhile but I love the bike and I am glad I kept it. It was and still is my dream bike. Good luck I hope its back together soon.

Wouldn't you just love to walk outside and catch someone doing that?  Wouldn't matter if you owned the bike or not...

No, no scorned ex's or anything like that.  I get along with just about everyone.  The dealer did give me 15% off on the new fairing, but I still have to wait 30+ days to get the new one.  Plus, about the insurance, no point in filing a claim, the fairing is less than $700 with the discount, and my deductible is $500, so no point in getting insurance points on my record for a mere $200 in payout.  Just have to grit my teeth and fork over the $700.  And to answer the question, no, it probably isn't a good thing that I caught them in the act.  Otherwise, I'd be typing this from some county jail or prison library.  I have little to no patience for bottom-feeders that would do this.  I'd have been arrested for assault if I caught the douchebag in the act of doing this.

Just wondering what the local Law is doing, or did you even report it?  If they can catch the Bas$^d maybe they can "persuade him to pay for the damage :nixweiss:

It seems like there's always some destructive a$$hole out there that can't handle it if your property is nicer than theirs. When I was younger, I owned a '74 Z-28. Beautiful car... We ran out of gas one night and couldn't get it off the road. We were only gone for fifteen minutes but in that time, someone had thrown a beer bottle at the car. It broke the driver side mirror and scratched the hell out of the door. A year later, my friend watched someone slam into the rear quarter panel. He caught them while they were trying to take off.

I swear nice vehicles come with a bullseye on them !
