Good Faith Customer Policy- Peeling Chrome
« on: April 07, 2006, 06:44:20 AM »

I've read here of many members that have had problems trying to resolve the peeling chrome issue with our model. Likewise there are members that have had their dealer take care of them on the Good Faith Policy I would like to see the numbers on how many have had their chrome issues taken care of.
This poll is going to be for owners that have had their dealings with the dealers AFTER the 1 year warrantee on the chrome.

Had the rear wheel replaced with no problems at all.  I added a set of rear crash bars also, the low profile thingys and one of them was peeling also, replaced, no questions asked.

I believe someone in an earlier post said we should be an optimist and call the part by the proper name  "engine guards and saddle bag guards" Just sayin. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

My wheels were ordered last week, under the good faith policy.  While the dealership jumped right on it with HD, they said that the MoCo would only trade like for like (no credit towards another set).

They also went on to say that the front wheel was on backorder until this week and the back wheel is "obsolete" (or was that the other way around?) so I'm not sure how much longer they'll be able to trade like for like.  But I would expect them to keep trading these for at least another year due to the history with the chrome on the 04's.  It wouldn't be too hard for an attorney to make a case against HD on this issue in my opnion. Errgh.

I just saw some pitting on the rear rocker box ..... Of course I didn't see while the bike sat high and dry on the jack all winter. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Just over a year old, looks like time to detail the bike and scrutinize it.

Porthole, As much as I agree with you on the detailing of your bike, I find myself wincing while I'm doing it for fear that (this may be the time) that I've cleaned my chrome right off!  :o

Your post has me more concerned the any other I've read to date. The obsolete issue for either wheel is obviously a major problem for us, if we are to keep these bikes with the original equipment (well original equipment may be a tad to strong) seeing as none of these wheels or floorboards, mirrors, blah, blah, blah will be the originals for many of us.
And if the Moco is only going to trade like parts, how the hell is that going to happen if the part is obsolete? Yup, you got me wondering [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Mark,

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the MoCo wasn't just recycling the wheels they replace under warranty (wheels returned to H-D by dealer, H-D returns to vendor to be re-chromed, vendor returns to H-D to be used for the next replacement, etc.)

Jerry,
No that wouldn't surprise me in the least. And not that I care they do that but, it would be nice  to know that the returned wheels and related chrome parts are being plated to last. At least give us products that will last for 5 years. At that point I'd change them myself at my expense.
I'm sure you have chrome pieces at your house that have been there for years. I still have my Triumph sitting in my garage with chrome from the 70's

MYCVO,,,,,I didnt even KNOW the saddle bag guard was peeling, The guy working on my bike at the time found it and pointed it out to me.
About halfway down the the bar, about 1/4 inch wide hunk was peeling off.  He found it when he was holding onto it for some reason and it sliced his finger.  Better him than me,,lololol.

I bought my 04 SEEG used with 1200 miles on it and when i washed it when I got it home noticed that there was hunks of chrome comming off back wheel.  Took to dealer and there was 30 days left on 2 year warranty.  Fixed no questions asked.

The funny part... Not really funny was when the service writer came out to see what the issue was said that he didn't see where it was peeling.  I said well the bags cover it but here... Reached down and pull a piece about the size of a quarter off and handed it to him.  Ask him if that helped him write the order up.

Now I have a passenger floor board that is bubbling bad.  So I am holding my vote till I stop back and see if they are going to stand behind that or not.

My opinion is that you make a commitment to a customer when you ask 30,000 for a bike...  I live in upstate new york and the chrome isn't comming off my 6 year old truck bumper that hasn't missed a winter up here.  My bike has never even felt a snow flake and my truck has never had the weekly rub downs that this bike has seen. lol
