It might be in H-D Inc's best interest to outsource their engines

Glad you said that and not me, but I was thinkin' it.

HD has a wierd way of looking at emissions compliance. Yamaha and Victory can meet emissions with air-cooled V-Twins (big ones), while making .80 HP/CI. Harleys are down to .65-.67 HP/CI and runnin' hot doing it. It's just a matter of changing the strategy of how they meet emissions and understanding the regs/testing better.

If HD were to outsource their engines, I would probably jump ship. Outsourcing their engine design is fine and a standard practice but if they were to start running Rotax engines in their bikes that would signify the end of my relationship with the brand. Even though that might be a good thing

I am not positive about the BRP/Can-Am parent company thing but my understanding is that Can-Am is a BRP brand and nothing more.

Well shazam - - actually that makes me happy. I had thought Bombardier had been gobbled up by some AMF type company. Good news and Thanks !

Agreed, I used to have one of their jet boats and loved it!

I think it is inevitable for HD to move over to a wet motor,  EPA standards aside. Power, longevity, reliability should drive this change even if they drag us with them kicking and screaming. Let's face it the HD power-plant is not the most advanced nor has it ever been. If it is done right it will be a good thing for the company and the riders, if it is done wrong... :boom: (I looked for an exploding emoticon but could not find one so the :boom: was a guess)

I Googled Can-Am and it shows it above all of the BRP line-up.

Just sayin

B B

I guess me shaking Victory out of BRP was a mistake, its Polaris that owns Victory and they make all the same toys as BRP. Anyhow I can't imagine where Harley is going to find the talent to do this unless Buell has a trick or two in the works. I would just like something that would out pull a Wing with the class of a Harley and that will take gobs of hp/tk. I think Triumph is well on its way for meeting that goal, but not quite there yet. I'll be looking real hard in AZ next month for "the bike" cause there was one in Tortilla Flats in 08 that looked really close to the 09 SERG especially after a few maggies.

It's a slipery slope. HD desperately needs to update their big twin... but their loyal customers almost demand that they don't... Between a rock and a hard place.

Absolutely right there! hence the kicking and screaming part. If they come out with a kick-butt motor and slowly work it into their lineup then they have a chance. They need to get the after market guys on-board as well, no goodies, no sales... It will be interesting to watch how they handle this, lets hope they do better than the Revolution VSRC release.

I just read the link and saw it referred to as a "souless platform" and wonder if they are right. I could get excited about out of the box horsepower and torque though.  Doc

My $.02 (adjusted for inflation):   :soapbox:  I've said that I won't buy another HD until they introduce a wet motor.  The Revolution Motor in the VSRC is powerful and reliable.  Imagine a V-four version in a touring bike.  I don't care that is may not sound exactly like my 2009 110!  Maybe not for 2012 or 13 but soon, gentlemen.... soon they will all be wet.

Ran accross this today.

If the rumor comes to pass, it is likely that older engines from previous model bikes will make a resurgence on the aftermarket, and these parts will become more expensive as traditional fans search them out for their bikes.

I like it when a plan comes together.
The 01 SERG may even jump from $80K to a hair under a $100K.
And the 05 SEEG, wow, my first 6 figure bike.
Bring on the wet motor I say!
