I’m planning on about a 5,000 mile trip this summer.  If gas passes the $5 threshold, I’ll be canceling Sturgis and just taking a few short local weekend trips instead.  Not that I can't pay those prices, just that I won't.

I am garaging my F-250 diesel and using my bike exclusively instead.

Never - I just keep reflecting that my Tahoe gets about 13 mpg, so any time I'm riding my bike, I'm paying 1/3 of what I would have to get from Point A to Point B otherwise. The bonus is getting to ride the bike instead of being cooped up in a cage!

Now, if it gets to $10 gallon, then all bets are off.

NEVER!   8) A lot of us ride $35k++++ motorcycles, everyone ride a $20k+++ part time toy thats often parked half a year.  Hard to imagine and extra $5-$10 worst case scenario will keep them parked?  Now, 5,000 miles divided by 35 MPG? = 142 gallons of gas? What's an extra .50 between now and the time you leave?  Enjoy your trip you will find more foolish things to spend your money on.....I'm jealous!!!!

ok ok ok

For Italy the prices are 1.45 Euro per liter so if you do the math that would be 1.45 X 3.79 (liters/GL)= 5.50 EURO/GL

5.50 EURO = $7.95 DOLLARS per GALLON

ouch

Cutting back on the motorcycle is not an option for me at this point....cutting back on the car and trucks is.

I figure we had to cut back on a steak house to eat at a Denny's to make up the difference in gas on the week we spent in Ariz.  It's all relevant....boils down to what are you willing to sacrafice to be able to keep riding? :nixweiss:  In the past, we've shared hotel rooms with a number of members from this forum.  Whatever it takes to keep on ridein! :2vrolijk_21:

By the way, gas has passed $5.00 a gallon at some stations here in Calif. :nervous:

Parked the truck....still plan on riding all summer....won't give up the fun and thrills just because gas is so high, will just cut corners elsewhere...just saying...

I did the math also, just sometimes I too cheap for my own good.  I agree with the toy factor, I have a 2010 CVO Ultra and a 2010 Softail Custom....  then I bitch about paying a few dollars more on fuel ....  But I do know that a lot of folks out there will change their plans based on $5 a gallon gas.

A rise in gas prices would not be as significant as drop in income. At present earnings gas prices will not affect the summer riding season.

Now my old bass boat might have been a different story. With a 50 gallon tank and 200hp motor $250 a day is a steep grade.

Actually in my case, rising gas prices has become the reason I am taking LD cross country to Maine this summer. My UPTA CAMP truck is an 89 Dodge Power Ram 318TBI V8 that gets a whopping 12.8 mpg. I figure even at a less than stellar 35mpg LD is a cheaper mode of land transport than the pickemup. Now water based transport - - -that's a whole other issue.

We know we have hit rock bottom when Harley makes a Hybrid Ultra Classic!  Time to empty the bank accounts, and  :drink: a lot, the world is coming to an end.
