Should be an opportunity for an American manufacturer to step in.

I don't think there is an American manufacturer that makes a radio out of exclusively American-made parts...and if there was, we couldn't afford it.  It would be too expensive because of being totally made here.

We can still build American (home) made radios.  Anyone else ever build crystal radios when they were young?

That will never happen

Americans can not produce a chitty product for less money than foreign countries can

Oh yeah!  What a blast.....moving that little wire all around on the crystal to tune it in   :huepfenlol2:.it's a shame that we have such a high unemployment rate, yet don't produce one radio.  :-[ spyder

Are there any than can do such a thing? :nixweiss:    Sure would be nice to quit relying on other countries to do what we should be doing for ourselves anyway.  :-\

You are correct, when I made parts for Delpi, we stamped the cases for their radios in Mexico.

Macintosh were the best audio amplifiers made, bar none, but whoooooeeee, were they expensive!!!  Then Carver came along and made and outstanding product, totally American made, but again, cost you an arm and a leg to buy.  American's can't make reasonably priced goods...hence that's why all of the major companies outsource to other countries...labor rates are much cheaper, but so unfortunately, is the quality...

I own several pieces of McIntosh equipment (very nice) but that Company has been owned by Japanese companies for the last 21 years.
Clarion for 13 years and now Marantz/Denon since 2003

Nice try though

I have Mac amp MC252 and MR80 tuner and Audio Research SP6b pre-amp, Technics SP10 turntable, Grace tonearm with Denon 103 MC cartridge and Linn Sondek head amp.
Vandersteen Speakers.......for all of the Audiophiles out there.

Didn't know about that, but then again, I haven't followed that.  The McIntoshes that I'm remembering were in the 70's and 80's.  Great stuff...always wanted them, but couldn't afford them.  Phase Linear was another great brand in the 70's.

In a previous life I sold that equipment and collected equipment, a bigger disease than motorcycles.
Phase Linear was an inexpensive piece compared to McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Audio research, and Luxman.
High end mainstream stuff was Phase, SAE, Yamaha and higher end was NAD, Nakamichi, Conrad Johnson and Bryston.

how about a used Linn Sondek CD player for $7500.00

Anyone out there remember Heathkit?
