Surprised by Dyno Results
« on: July 21, 2011, 07:45:51 PM »

This morning I stopped by my buddies shop to see what numbers my 2011 CVO Street Glide would make with V & H Dresser Duals, Hi-Output Slipons and a Powercommander V. PLus I wanted to see if he could cool it down a bit.

He made one run, tweeked it and ran another. It was 96 degrees, barmetric pressure about 28 in-Hg and the humidity around 28%.

I was surprised to see the peak TQ at 108.25 (3700 RPM) since I've always heard free flowing pipes and true duals really hurt the TQ numbers. 100.87 TQ at 2700 rpm to 101.10 at 4600 rpm. My other surprise was that the peak HP number was only 89.52.

All the dyno charts I've seen with 2-1-2 headers, less restricive mufflers and different tuner mods range around 102 TQ and 95 HP.

Once I get the chart I'll post it but the curves are pretty smooth.

Thoughts?

Yes, you lost several ft. lbs. tq. and more than a few HP.  My peak numbers are 111.13 tq and 106.57 hp and some of the guys with the same set up have even higher numbers.  Looks like yours was tuned stricktly for tq. that's for sure.

Although you might do a bit better if it were cooler and less humidity.  Curious to see your dyno sheet.

JCZ,

Do you have the same cam as willyB?  When you say "same set up", do you mean same as yours or as his?

My bike only has the stock 255 cams.  The only change from stock was the headers, mufflers and PC.

I'm sure with the Feuling 575's my numbers would be significantly higher. Talking with my buddy he said the Wood 555's would pull similar numbers. These 255's are strictly designed as a TQ cam and would not make big HP numbers. Plus, with the relatively high temperature and humidity numbers it is sure to pull down the HP numbers anyway.

Does anybody have similar dyno charts with my setup?

JCZ,

Willy has stock cams.  I was referring to others with the same set up as mine.  There are a lot of members on this forum going with the Fueling 575s.

Since I had mine put in (and the dyno sheet referenced) I've since gone with the cometic .030 gaskets and just by the seat of the pants I can tell you that I definately have more tq.  It's just real evident to me when I'm twisting the wick and bangin through the gears. :2vrolijk_21:

Willy, the stock cams aren't bad at lower rpm but they fall off real quick and the limit is short.  Change those cams and you'll get to experience some very usuabl real power. :2vrolijk_21:

Jim hd-dude at Metal Dragon did the work on mine.
He installed the Woods TW7H cams.
118 Torque/104 HP.
PLUS, two up I'm averaging 48 MPG. (and as everyone knows, I ride slow ;D)

I agree the stock cams are limited in their range. They're a good cam for granny cruising.

Once I get a few bucks saved up I'm planning on new cams (Probably Woods 555's), flat top 10.5-1 Wiseco pistons and some custom headwork. That will truly make a huge differnece in performance.

But for now I was really surprised by the 108 TQ numbers with 2-1's and Hi-output's, especially on a hot/humid day. I'm guessing V & H's knows a little about performance exhaust as I did not get an abnormal drop in TQ as I've been led to believe. Still haven't got the dyno e-mial from him but +100 TQ from 2700 rpm thru 4600 rpm with max TQ of 108.24 at 3800 rpm. All on a very smooth curve

Before my buddy thru it on the dyno he was giving me a little crap about how my setup was going to kill my TQ numbers. When he was done he said was shocked at how well they performed.

Like I mentioned before these things are pretty loud on backroad cruising but are nice at highway speeds.

Here's the dyno results. Sorry for the poor picture.

Can somebody tell me where my V&H Dresser Duals, V&H Hi-Output Slipons and Powercommander V killed my TQ numbers on a hot humid day?

Obviously HP numbers get destroyed on hot humid days but where's the TQ destruction?

PS: The Blue line is the Canned Map I received from FuelMoto. Not a bad canned map. With the new map the scoot runs a little cooler now

I had my 010 dyno-ed at 109 torque, and 96 HP.  Bike has the V&H dresser duals, Monster Ovals, Big Sucker AC, and the PCV.  Runs cooler, and I am extremely happy with the performance.

Wow, with those numbers and getting 48 MPG's - that's great.

Willy,
Those numbers are typical for the type setup you have.  Typically, you'll lose some TQ with true duals over 2 into 1, or 2 into 1 into 2 header pipes, but your numbers look good there.  I'm running the stock header pipes, (minus the CAT), Klockwerks Revolver mufflers and the SESPT, and my dyno'd numbers came out to 108 TQ and 91 HP and I'm getting 42mpg two up with it. I'm very happy with the "seat of the pants" feel I get and have no desire to change out the cams to chase numbers now.  It does what I need it to do, and does it well.

As you've probably noticed in my other posts, I'm a nervous Nelly about mods that the MoCo can use to wipe out the warranty.  Would changing the cams and swapping head gaskets to the .030 Cometec (sp) stop the engine warranty? I know the Magnuson act would fit in there some place, just curious. I'd like to max out my power without swapping pistons and so far I'm running the rinehart T/d, SERT stage 1 and big suck A/C. I can see where the true duals would hurt things and having a canned tune without going across the rollers doesn't give me max power or even a baseline. Trying to come up with a game plan to make the changes and get an actual dyno tune but the warranty thingy mo bobber comes to mind. Even thought about the 120R swap and while it doesn't have an engine warranty, what would the installation of such a beast do to the rest of the drive train warranty? Pretty sure it would wipe it all out so maybe i should consider all my mods to a different sled and leave Big blue alone. Just some rambling thoughts and I'm doubting a shop would put it in writing that a cam and head gasket change wouldn't void the warranty. Just getting 100hp and 110 lbft would be enough for the blue girl but that would be difficult at 4500' EL.
Thnx.

It looks like you ended up with improved performance and you said it runs cooler... so you got what you wanted, right? If the curves look good and the bike feels good, I wouldn't be overly concerned about the peak numbers. Those are just numbers.

I have a WICKED combo for the 110.

I use SE heads milled 50 and ported by Moto Headz Racing
Woods 408-6 cams
forged 10.5 pistons
HPI 58mm tbody
RB Racing pro stock pipe

This combo pulls over 131 HP and over 140 ftlbs. It also sounds like a freakin top fuel funnycar.
