New front fender 2011.5 SEUC
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:39:32 PM »

Today everything is complete.

But the beginning starts back at Ribfest 2011.
We came back from Ribfest and I needed to clean the bike so I could drop it off at the Harley shop.
Keyboard Carriers was picking up the bike to go to California that week.
As I was cleaning I found a dent on the front fender. I was sick, but finished cleaning the bike.
The next day I took the 2011.5 to the Harley shop and was lucky the painter I use had stopped by to drop off some work.
I showed Todd the fender and he was like, no problem I can fix that when you get back from California.
The bike was shipped and a couple days later I was on the site and saw this thread,
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=55493.0.
So I called Jim at Metal Dragon and asked him to look to see if there were any wheel weights missing on the front wheel on the 2011.5.
A few days later when the bike arrived in California Jim called and "yes, two of the four front wheel weights are missing."
See picture below.

So I was like "BINGO" there is more to this story than "chit happens" there is an issue with the wheel weights coming off and denting fenders.
While I was in California I met a  site member who has great taste in bikes.
John has a 2011.5 just like mine. As we were discussing our bikes in the motel parking lot at Tahoe he said he was very happy with his bike but sad because he already had a dent on it. I asked where was the dent. Front fender was his reply. Let's go look and damn, same exact place as the dent in my fender. And he had wheel weights missing.
So we continued on with riding California until we had a chance to get the "MAN" (Jock) to take a picture of both bikes together.
See picture below.

So now, feeling that it was a warrantable issue I talked with the Harley shop to start a replacement process.
I sent them an email documenting information from this site where the Motor Company had replaced fenders and pictures of mine and John's bike.
All the information was forwarded on to Harley.
The next day I got the call that a new fender was on order and when the fender came in they would also replace the tire.

But those that know me know that that answer wasn't good enough for me.
I asked what is being done so there will not be a future incident to my fender.
Good question my dealer said and passed my question on to Harley.
I got the answer the next day, I was told that if it happened again they would just replace the fender again.
I was like "DUH how stupid is that?"
But, knowing how well my dealer looks after me it is what it is.
Here's a picture of the fender that started the whole process.

If you can imagine, getting a 2011.5 Screamin Eagle fender takes some time.
The fender actually came in at the end of July.
So what were we waiting on?
Guess what, Harley now has a NEW style wheel weight.
Cool, as long as they are black I'm good with it.
So today was the day.
New fender, new tire, new style weights and a great service department making sure everything was right.
Life is good!

Below is the new fender out of the box and liner it was wrapped in.

So in summary, if you find a dent on your front fender please check and see if your missing a wheel weight.
Sometimes "Chit does happen" and you have to make repairs to your bike at your cost.
But then again, it may be a warrantable issue.
I thank this site for all the information here and hope maybe my post here will trigger someone to realize that things are not as they seem.
If I had not read that thread about the wheel weights missing I would have been paying my painter to repair the dent.

When in California I took this picture of the two wheel weights missing.
Look at the picture, wheel weights # 1 and # 4 are missing.
Notice in the picture that wheel weight # 3 has a gap under it.
Wheel weight # 3 was the next weight to fly off.
This past weekend Nancy and I did about a 1000 mile preride for the Maggie Valley GTG.
When I got home wheel weight # 2 was gone.
Riding a SEUC at speed with 4 wheel weights missing was an adventure.
I look forward to the new tire and a smoother ride.
Finally!
Life is good again!

I don't use the word "unbelievable" anymore but that maybe the dumbest thing out of H.D. yet.

Glad they took care of you w/ minimal hassle.  :2vrolijk_21:

Why not get rid of wheel weights all together and use dyna beads?

they work great and easier to clean the wheel
