Re: First Hot Citrus FLHXSE3 with Tour Pak? Maybe!
« Reply #195 on: October 15, 2011, 07:43:16 PM »

The tour pak spoiler LED is wired to the accessory connector under the seat, and not to the tour pak harness used for the side marker lights and other OEM tour pak lighting.  Here's a link to the installation instructions:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J01364.pdf

See page 2, steps 11-13.

You can wire the spoiler LED to the wiring inside the tour pak easily enough; that's how the spoiler LED is wired on my Ultra TP.  Using the tour pak's wiring for the spoiler LED makes it a bit easier to install and remove the tour pak since only the tour pak harness needs to connected/disconnected; no need to remove the seat to unplug the spoiler LED connector supplied with the kit.

As for the tour pak harness, typically it is coiled and zip tied to the frame, though I have no personal knowledge of the tour pak harness on a SESG3.  Typically, the three-wire connector is black and will have a black ground wire, blue run light circuit wire, and a red/yellow brake light circuit wire.

Good luck with your installation.

Carl

Hmmm... Thanks for the info, Carl... but there is no wire harness anywhere on my bike that would go back to the Tour Pak. Only the short wire with the 3-pin connector under the left side cover. I've looked everywhere... no harness. I do want to have only a single connection cable for all of the lights, to make it easy to remove the Tour Pak.

NGHawg,
Nice pictures and nice bike! I pick my ruby red up this Friday.
I was contemplating a chopped tour-pak instead of the full size one. Now that I see your pictures I'll go with the full size tour-pak.
I will put the airwing luggage rack on which I already have with the smoked tail/stop light.
I will leave the back of the tour-pak alone unless I find something to paint on there. I think a SE emblem like the tanks of the 05's would be nice.
Right now less is more.
The side lights do not come with the tour-pak?

You will LOVE it! I don't know if the Chopped Tour Pak would have the graphics on it like the King does. I went with the King simply because i like to have room in the Tour Pak to stash stuff on a ride without trying to cram everything in.

Correct - the side lights are a separate items. The Tour Pak comes just with the chrome trim strips... and no holes at all except for the lock, the passenger pad mounting. and two holes on the front to mount a lower passenger pad if you want one. It also came with a small pouch bolted to the front on the inside, too.

I'm not going to put a rack on this bike... just the spoiler. I think the rack will detract from the paint and make it look too much like an Ultra. The Ultra light bar I have thought about... but I don't want to spoil that vast Orange Wall!

Looks great Ken  :2vrolijk_21:

Personally I would add the SEUC rear light from the 10 or 11 model painted in Hot Citrus. Would look great and give you the added lights. Might keep some of these idiots on the Alpharetta Autobahn off of your arse.

Mike - I think it would take something like rear-firing machine guns to do that! People on GA 400 drive like LUNATICS! I have been tailgated at literally the length of the bike on 400... I get on it as little as possible! Hwy 9 is a nicer ride anyway.

NGH
I was considering an Ultra except they aren't as striking as the SG is. The 8 speakers are another discriminating feature I just couldn't walk away from either.
I really like the scheme on the pac you bought. For the 2004 of mine all the color was on the top of the lid and really didn't get my eyes popping or my heart pounding. I showed my wife your pictures and she loves the pac. Her concern is the feeling of safety a wrap around back pad gives her.
I can't wait till Friday to see mine!!!

Thanks - they REALLY did a nice job on the TP this year... I love it! You're right - the TP is very nice to give the BSR a sense of safety. And with our 8-speakers, the big Ultra speaker pods aren't needed... that keeps the SG lines clean and not "Ultra-looking". I posted in the "Why are you guys not buying Ultras" thread about my reasons for getting the '12 CVO SG rather than the CV Ultra...

Post some pics once you get yours mounted up!

What exactly are Chubby bars?  Is the diameter bigger around than stock?  Do they sit up higher like mini apes?  And how far would you say they are closer to you than the stock?   :nixweiss:  Thanks

I also have a set, they are 2 inches wider and about 1 to 2 inches farther back toward rider.

MUCH more comfortable than stock. They are also 1.25 inches in diameter instead of 1 inch on the
stock bars but they look bigger than that when you get them on the bike. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the reply.  The .25 diameter difference, does this cause a problem when you attach handgrips and all the other parts that fit around the circumference of the bar?
