I downloaded the update over the weekend and burned a CD using Nero with Win XP.  Followed the directions and it went through perfectly the first time.  Now shows 8.9 as the version.  The only thing I saw was that the radio only shuts down and restarts 1 time, not 2 like the instructions say.

That happened to me as well......only restarted once......but I believe is ok.....at least displays the latest version [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Thanks for the info- I was successful.  Used WMP to burn the data disk.

The first shut down/restart is the restart with the verifying/reflashing (the % bars), the second 'shut down' is the restart in FM radio mode....(I think) I didn't get to push a test complete button though.  Happens fast so tough to see an actual shutdown... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I had some trouble like some of you described on my first two attemps but was able to get it upgraded. Here's what I found.

I started with both TMS320 and ST10 at V7.8. On my first two attemps that failed I didn't have to pull the maxi fuse to get the CD to eject. I just switched the ignition off. I held the two soft keys and switched to access to bring it into diag mode. I selected software and then exited. The CD would eject after that.

I used Roxio to  burn the CD's. What I was doing wrong was that under File -> Project Settings you can change the file system setting to ISO 9660. It was set wrong when I burned my first two CD's. After I found that, I was able to update with no problems. Both the TMS320 and ST10 now show V8.9.

This week I tried downloading the software update myself and could never get it to load properly on the bike. I followed the instructions as best I could and checked to make sure it was loaded at ISO9660 at 8X using Roxio. My bike had v.7.8 on both the TMS320 file and ST10 file. when I did the disc download it would change the TMS320 to v.8.9 but it never would change the ST10 to v.8.9 ? I never got the Update succesful or completed message and had no problem with ejecting the disc. I tried 4 seperate discs with no luck. I even tried reinserting the disc if the bike kicked it out but always got the message that it was unable to download because  of wrong disc.
While at the dealer today about my ignition switch recall(They didn't have the parts) I asked them to download the update for me and after 2 tries they discovered they only had the v.7.8. They reset my radio to v.7.8 for both files and stated they will call MOCO next week and get the v.8.9download for me later.

Well, had a decent chance to test out the new firmware this weekend.  Improvements I noted:

1) MP3 now displays artist and title (would be nice if they made this scroll!)
2) Seems to have fixed the "RANDOM" problem with MP3s where they'd play randomly for a while, then revert to one after the other
3) VOX for the intercom seems to be greatly improved - not nearly so badly affected by wind noise for example.

On the downside, CB is still useless for communicating with pre-06 bikes....  :-[

I may have missed it if it was covered above, but after downloading files to the CD, do you just load the CD in the Radio/CD unit?  I guess the HD site might answer this question.  I'll check it out next!

I'm a Capt. on a Dynamic Positioning Ship. I spend the better part of my hitch hacking away at puters, software upgrades, hardware swaps, hardware upgrades, getting 15 of 20 to shake hands etc. Once off this floating Microsoft nightmare the last thing I want to do is cause friction with Louise (fond name of my cuse) To each his own of course, but as I was reading all these post today all I could think of was once off this tub all I want to do is load her tank and blast a hole thru some backroads as fast (or slow) as I want.

Also as I was reading I was thinking "What would some of the old scooter tramps from the Flathead, Panhead and Shovels think if they were to see what the talk is today?"

Lo and behold I was about to be blessed with the answer when my Chief Engineer came up on the bridge. You see my Chief is 57 years old. He has a red beard down to his beer gut, bald on top but long and shaggy on the sides, has an old leather biker wallet (complete with a chain) that is so old it's held together with wide rubber bands. The leather is worn paper thin in many places from many miles of hard ridin. To this day I do not believe he owns a shirt that is not black. His favorite 5 tee shirts all say "See no EVO, Speak no EVO, Hear no EVO. His current ride is a 64 Pan in which he has bolted on some ammo boxes for saddlebags. The bike hasn't been washed since the last rain he was riding in. It's got event stickers from Sturgis, Daytona, Myrtle Beach, Hollister, etc. etc. dating back to the 70's. Basically he's an ol' school rat bike kind of guy. Mind you he ain't poor...he easily clears $150,000.00 a year. OK, I think you understand who and what he is.....

Upon his approach to me as I was sitting at the puter reading these post he ask "What ya reading there Cap?" OH NOTHING I SAID as I quickly clicked to another web page  ::)

seuceg,
Such is the cycle of life. 8-)

I bet your Chief Engineer's grandfather would chastize him for riding one of them noisy high tech mechanical devices and wonder " if he was a real man he would ride a horse." 8-)

In the not too distant future we will be either dinosaur relics who can't keep up with the technology  or romantic figures who stuck with tradition. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] ;D

I guess at that point the question is and always will be.."Who is the happiest and most content man? The man who stayed with the spearhead of advancement, or the man who got off when he reached his limit?
