oil pressure
« on: October 20, 2011, 07:07:53 PM »

I recently replaced my 2009 serg oil pump with a Feuling race pump and the oil pressure has jumped considerably.10 lbs at idle,47 lbs at 2000 rpm. Noticed that the motor seems to run cooler as well. Any one do this mod and experience the same results.

Replaced my stock oil pump w/a Fueling and noticed an increase in oil pressure so what you are seeing is probably the norm for that switch. :2vrolijk_21:

Is it a big job to replace the oil pump or do you just have to drop the oil pan?

dugga25, did you notice any reduction in valve train noise with your increased oil pressure. My bike idles at 12-16 and is always at 32 lbsgoing down the road no matter how hot it gets outside. Just curious. CAHDBIKER

Would be curious about this answer......mine is 32lbs at highway speed as well.....

If just an oil pump replacement made the noise better that would be a no brainer

digga25, Just for the record, at idle my valve train is pretty quiet. It  is only noisey between about 2200-2800 like a lot of the other guys oon the site have reported. CAHDBIKER

To replace the oil pump you have to open the cam chest, remove the cam plate and the oil pump is on the inside of the camplate. It runs on the pinion shaft. Easy job if you have a manual....torque specs and step by step install. Use a lot of assembly lube. Motor seems to run cooler.Idle pressure 10+, cruise speed 2000 rpm 47-50 psi. Changed the lifter and pushrods motor is now quiet,no more tic tic tap tap. Couldnt stand that noise. Always afraid of doing damage to the motor. Now smooth and sounds like a motor should. Never would have attempted the change if it wasnt for this forum.Love it.Fred

FWIW-

The 07 and later touring bikes have hydraulic cam chain tensioners that work off of oil pressure.  Some have reported that with increased oil pressure, the plastic tensioner shoes will wear faster.   I do not know this as a fact.

If you thought the oil pressure on 07 and later bikes was bad, you shouldn't have looked at the oil gauge on the older models.

My 10 is like the others, 10-12 at idle and 32 at road speed.  Will leave as is unless I have to get in the cam chest someday.

Had an oil pressure gauge on my EVO--at idle you would think it was broken....

None of my bikes had high oil pressure at idle, no matter what oil I used.
I will also say, I have never had an oil pressure related failure.
That being said, I know a lot have had pumps go out and kill the motor, but that was a run out issue.
Not a general lack of lubrication issue. (As far as I know, that is)
I have given some consideration to a upgraded oil pump on my last 2 CVO's, but just never did it.
Not sure I can see a reason, but that's just for me, others have to do what makes them feel comfortable.
Just sayin

Ever wonder why the MOCO did not put an oil pressure guage on ALL the other models :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Because those that purchase them aren't so ANAL and just want to ride their machine :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I'm looking at changing the oil pump to a Feuling as well as a high flow camplate when I do cams/heads. The way I see it, when it's torn apart already I like to upgrade, just trying to get something that runs okay to run better, IMHO.
