Handlebar Suggestions
« on: October 27, 2011, 10:31:29 PM »

I am running stock bars and want to switch to "Apes" or "Meat hooks". I am 6'2" with a very long reach. Any pics aor recommendations. I want something that will accent the look of my bike.

Any help/input is greatly appreciated.

I really liked the Wild 1 Chubbys on my RKC. I had the 14" Apes and they were nice but if I had it to do over again I would go with 16"s. I'm 6'0 with gorilla arms and could have had 18" bars without them being uncomfortable.

Now I am looking to put a set of apes on my SESG.

My Yaffe 12" monkey bars have just arrived and are being installed next week.

IMO they are most definitely the best looking apes on the market.

I'm 6' 3" and I reckon these will fit me perfectly.

16" Chubbys would look really nice on that bike with a solo seat. :2vrolijk_21:

I don't have apes now....been riding baggers for a few years but at 6'4", I ran apes for years on various bikes.  They're much more comfortable than they look.  Or at least they were when I was younger. :nervous:

Be sure you're using a one piece top clamp.  I can't describe the feeling......22" apes and all of a sudden the right bar is completly loose being held only by the brake cable and my right hand.  Fortunately, I was able to get it pulled over and stopped without going down.  But it sure has the pucker factor. :o

JMHO, but on the RK's, Carlini Designs Gangster Apes look killer!  Get the 1.5'' bars.  They are thick, and match with the rest of the bike's characteristics.

If you go to the roadglide.org forum, they have a whole section of member's bikes with different variations of bars with pics and installation threads, it's helped me to see what they actually look like on bikes, roadglides anyway, some really good advice. :2vrolijk_21:

The Carlini bars are killer! Pricey for sure but they do look nice. I looked at them when I was doing my RKC and couldn't justify the extra investment as it was not just the bars but the risers, clamps, as well. Sweet bars though! I was recently looking at their bagger apes and am not quite as impressed with them but for a RK, they should be in the mix.

I'm running Wild 1 8.5" baby apes on my SERK4. I like the way they look on the bike (not a big fan of apes) and love the wrist / arm / back position.

Carlini has a couple of nice bars for baggers.  They have the curved lines that go with the curved lines of the bike.  They're available in chrome or black.

What would be the tallest bars without changing cables on a 11 rug?
