SADDLEBAG THEFT
« on: November 04, 2011, 08:08:21 AM »

I've owned 5 baggers, in the last 10 years and never thought about anyone stealing the bags off of my bikes. i figured that they had locks on them, so they were safe  :nixweiss:. then i saw a video of how someone can steal the bags in under two minutes, with a flat head screwdriver. it blew me away. i talked with a few of my riding buddies and none of them thought you could steal the bags that easy either. so i thought i would pass this on to my CVO friends. my 2012 SESG has the speakers in the bag lids, so it dawned on me that they catch a thief's eye. i purchased a product called SADDLEBAG SECURE from BRUKUS. no lazy sucker will get my bags. they'll have to earn them like i did  :2vrolijk_21:

Glad you learned...

Brukus has been used by several on this site (including me). They make a variety of quality security products and give CVOharley.com members a discount.

Had mine installed as soon as I got my ride too. Ipod, rain gear, tools, ect + the trouble of getting everything replaced but the other thing I love about this product is that it eliminates the chance of the bag falling off due to a weak/broken wire or not reinstalling it properly.

The Brukus products are great. I have the SaddlebagSecure and SeatSecure products on both bikes. They are MUCH better than those crappy quick-detach fasteners that come stock. Change comes hard to the MoCo sometimes.

And yeah... thieves are lower than fly dung... but they are out there. The Brukus products are a pretty inexpensive way to make it hard enough for them to pass your bike by...

The Brukus video shows how a saddlebag can be taken in less than 10 seconds!
I was more concern with a saddlebag falling off during a ride and not know it.  I installed the "Saddlebag Secure" on my former RK.  When I traded my RK in on my CVO, I took the Saddlebag Secure off the RK and installed it on my new CVO.  I reinstalled the stock HD pin & wire on the RK at the dealership.

I also took the Seat Secure as well and installed it on my CVO.

I put them on after I almost lost one of my bags. I was on a ride and saw something that I wanted to take a picture of. When I pulled over and opened my bag lid to get my camera, the whole bag popped off in my hands. My timing was perfect. If it hadnt been for the Kodak moment, my bag would have been sliding down the road !!

Even with the Brucas kit installed...a 7/16" wrench still gets the bags AND brackets off pretty quick.

oops meant 7/16" wrench on a 1/4 "bolt.

Without going ou to the garage, I'm pretty sure the back mount is directly on the support bracket bolted to the frame--the same bracket that extends down and supports the back of the muffler.

Why would the MoCo want anything like this. The more that is stollen off our bikes the more we buy!! Just say'n.

Maybe it's gonna take another look...a better look with the bags off....I should have reserved comment until I get home and am at the bike with a 7/16 in hand......
