What the people with the pre-09 bikes are up against is that the bracket that those tamper proofer bolts go in to can be removed with a 7/16" wrench and the bag and brackets will come off together along with those tamper proof screws. On 09 and later the rear bolt on the bag screws into  a bracket that is bolted to the frame in 2 places and not so easy to get off quickly.

Thanks for the Brukus reply information.

I'll have to look into it a little more, since my ride is an '07.  It appears to be a problem, but I'm going to have to see for myself they can be removed.  I'd planned on installing them on mine this weekend, but got sidetracked.  I'm going to contact Brukus to see about getting the security bolts, but this should be a normal part in the package.  I want to know why we are even having this discussion if they are supposed to be "Security" bolts in the first place?  Why are we having to order yet another part?????
Nowhere in their site does it indicate this product can be defeated using simple tools.   Not happy about this at all.  :nixweiss:

BTW: I agree with Kraut, this isn't telling the thieves anything they don't already know.  But it's up to us to make it as friggen hard as we can to slow them down.  Time is essential to a crook. If it looks hard, they will move onto an easier target.  I don't want that to be my or any of our friends bikes.  :2vrolijk_21:

What length of 1/4" bolts are required?  I'm away at work and have access to hardware....but not my bike.

I removed one of the bolts and it actually measures 7/8" long, but a 3/4" bolt will work fine.  That's what I used and I have a flat washer and lock washer on it (along with a little blue thread locker).  I'm paranoid about stuff vibrating loose on my bike.

Exactly.  Nothing will make them theft-proof, but if you make it more difficult, or make it take more time they will likely move on

Hey guys! Thank you, SCRM-R, for making us aware of this thread.

As I replied to SCRM-R, we occasionally receive an inquiry about the bags begin secured on the brackets. I don't have that issue on my bike - so I wasn't aware that it might be a wide-spread issue. (And I apologize to dayne66 for you not receiving a reply - it obviously fell through the cracks which is never acceptable.)

Here is the issue from our standpoint - the bolt that is needed for the brackets is a different size than the bolts used in our other securing products and would have to be made to fit our securing tool. This is not that unusual as our Fender Security Screw is custom made for us to fit the same tool as our SaddlebagSecure, for instance. But it is a major outlay of money for us with a large minimum of the bolts having to be made up. (Read: the demand must be there.)

We are a small, new company that must focus on what is going to sell in order to stay in business - especially with our custom made parts which keep going up in price daily. So the question would be - is there enough demand for the custom bracket bolts to have 1,000's made up? Or would you, the customer, be satisfied with a bolt that does the job but works with a different securing tool. For us - we could package and provide the latter fairly easily. It's not like you would be needing to take the brackets off or keep the tool with you as with our other securing products.

This is a great forum to get some feedback on this. All of our products since SaddlebagSecure® have come with suggestions from our customers - so we obviously listen!

As far as the video showing how easily the bags are stolen, we got really tired of having people contact us whose bags had been stolen. The thieves know about this - but it is eye-opening to those who don't have the mind of a thief. We felt the need to educate. It's not meant as a scare tactic - but simply to inform. And our product is not just to deter thieves, it's also to prevent fly-offs - which we ALSO get a lot of emails about - mainly after the fact.

Thank you to all the comments about our company and our products. We really do pride ourselves on leading the way in securing products.

And - Harley is not the only company who uses this system. Victory Cross bikes also use the the quick release system (with a slight variation) as does Yamaha with their Stratoliner and is now using it on all their hard bags. But they are also answering to their customer base who want the bags to be easily removed for cleaning, etc...

Our product cannot be defeated unless they have the right tool and access to the inside of your bag. This is a separate issue. We have yet to have anyone contact us that they had our system on and the bags were removed at the bracket.

I to have access to all the pieces in the vendor kit. So last night I brought some home and installed them in about 5 minutes. I only put them in the forward position, if a thief comes and looks he will see them and move on, and the bags will still come off easy for me (cleaning reasons, you know me). I used 1 inch 5/16 bolts in mine and added a allen wrench to the bag for on the road removal if needed.
Putting a set together for Marty and will put them on this weekend. Sure replacing them on all four points is good, but I don't think it will add any extra security.

As I previously stated, I already solved it by using 1/4-20 X 3/4 T27 torx tamper resistant machine screws.  I already had some and the tool that fits them.  I believe that any button head screw would work about as well because you cannot get a wrench on it with the bags installed.  Those hex head screws are easily removed though.  Thanks for your reply Brukus.

Great! I'll wait for more replies. Meanwhile, I think I'll work on starting to at least carry some of the bolts to make it easy for our customers. We are in the middle of designing a ShieldShackle and a KickShoe for Heritage AND a boot heel guard for less money than is currently on the market - so we are busy here!

Having to replace saddlebags and a TP that was stolen from the bike I just bought, I'd go with the fill-gap solution until a permanent solution was available.

I'll call you to discuss what can be done now, and the time frame to have the brackets and bags share the same tamper proof bolt.

Thanks for monitoring this forum.  Means a lot.

Pardon me for being a big dummy, but has anyone installed the SaddleBag Secure on a 2012 SESG?  I ask because I ordered the kit, took my bags off, and couldn't figure out how the hell to install the product.  The new brackets are totally different fthan those on my 2007 SERK with hard bags...Bruckus?   Anyone...?

You are the first person who has said anything about this. Why are they not working?
