I appreciate the feedback,  I hesitated to post knowing that this subject can be at the least controversial.

VAEagle - I'm curious, are you in law enforcement ?  I come from a family of law enforcement, and 20 yrs. before I bought my first handgun my dad had a conversation with me, your post brought that day back to me in living color.   Your points are right on the mark.  Everytime I handle a gun I run some of those questions through my mind, and validate my responsibilities.

Hubbard - I'm with you 100%.  I always try to avoid a bad situation, part of the converation with my dad  ;)    I have a story similiar to yours, some broken ribs to show for it.

For the last 7 yrs we've been living in a rural area outside of a city that we're very comfortable in.  During this time we've taken many trips on the bike and have on occasion run into that moment where you're in a situation that you feel could become life threatening.  We're about to move to a new place in a new city - big city, urban home.  We've just been having discussions at home related to personal security and those have led to how we handle it when traveling, thus the reason for my post.

I feel for ya boys...   I'm uniquely lucky and my problems seem small.....
I spent...
22 yrs of military service in Special Forces and then Special Operations...  point a)  there's not much I need a weapon for.
next,  22 yrs of military service in Special Forces and then Special Operations...  100% VA  disability.  point b)  Everytime a fly farts in a surrounding county, I'm allowed to feel like I am in immenent danger.  (that makes everything self defense)
Next,  22 yrs of military service in Special Forces and then Special Operations...  I have a federal permit that is recognized in most states, (not all), which enables me to carry the weapon of choice to put said villian into the appropriate frame of mind to diffuse the situation in most areas that I ride in.
NEXT,  I travel at alomost all time with a big, huge, easily visible, very intimidating, almost overdone, completely on display, ....    smile, with a good sense of humor to go with.  It has served me better than any weapon I've carried.  (but I still carry the weapon, and if the F&%$(#*&$%R don't laugh at my jokes, I'll shoot 'im dead and say he was killin' me!)

And yes, in case your wondering, the flavor today is my Kimber .45 AirWeight Commander...

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Coolbreeze,
Kimber is a superb piece, to say the least.  I pack a Model 629 Smith on Interstate runs, and a Long Barrell Python for Intrastate trips.  Don't know why, just a querk I guess.  That said, I want to say "Thank You", for defending my Freedom all those years.  You are to be commended, Sir.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Later--HUBBARD

Given that it seems there's always some idiot everywhere who feels he has something to prove or is in some other way idiotic then, as often as it seems to come up, this is a question I'd still never answer or otherwise discuss in an open public forum.  What others don't know is more often to one's benefit.

Well said Don or as I like to say, " what you don't know can't hurt me "

Hey There Mr. Hubbard,  Thank you for the thank you, but mostly, it was my pleasure, and remains so today.  Now I'm a Veterans Service Officer for the county where I live, so now I get to serve the Veterans.  It's kind of a circular thing, and I really like it.   And one of the best parts of the job is the satisfaction of knowing that the important folks still appreciate us.  Thanks for giving me a reason to go.

That having been said, do you experience uneven wear on your tires from leaning to the side to hold up the hog leg?  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  I've got an old Colt Python with a 10" on it and I'm not sure I could hoslter it in what I've got for leather without the barrel draggin' in the dirt when I cornered!!!  'course, I'm on a SEEG, so I hang pretty low to start with....  ::)

This is a really good thread and comments from Hubbard, VA Eagle and others are spot-on. Having law enforcement experience and 21 years in the Military I agree with most all comments here so far. I would like to suggest a web site that has a tremendous amount of data in a one-stop-shopping format. www.packing.org
It lists all the current state laws and which states honor other states permits and where NOT to EVER go with a handgun (DC, Maryland, NYC, among others) (All the places you seem to want to carry).
As said before in this post, if you choose to carry, know how to use it, get something that will work, and get your head right about what will happen after the trigger is pulled. Best advice yet, avoid places that you may need to use it (gospel according to Hubbard!).

Hey Yuk, you're 'on the money' with this advice......too many carry weapons that haven't thought beyond the point of use......our society is set up to protect 'after the fact'.....and that means punish the user of the weapon, not the 'cause'.   :(  But, that said.......when you get too old to run, ya gotta stand and fight. (or do what Mista Hubbard says and 'stay away')  har!  ;) spyder

I agree there, Yukla95.  Once the trigger has been pulled, the decision has been made and cannot be reversed, for ever and ever.  Kinda' scary, ain't it?  Later--HUBBARD

I contemplated long and hard before posting the above links, but as you said it's readily available to be found on Internet. After considering that I just figured it was like any other thing we share here when someone is looking for something. I do understand your concerns, but at least we know what these "concealment" items look like, and how the weapons can be concealed. ;)
