SKYLINE DRIVE THROUGH SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK
« on: July 24, 2006, 11:07:12 PM »

Unless I missed it, I didn't find Skyline Drive listed among the topics in these ride reports.  This 105 miles of road in Virginia is a great ride.  You can probably find details on a website somewhere, but if you're ever in the area, you need to ride this road and take some time to stop at some of the many overlooks.

I agree.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] One of the best roads to ride on and to top it off it's almost in my backyard. :)

When you planning on being near Harrisonburg and Waynesboro Va on the "Drive". I'm close to both of these and may be able to do a meet and great.

As I recall, there are about 70 scenic overlooks in the park.  I think that most of them are along Skyline Drive.  Most of the ones along the West side of the road overlook the Shenandoah Valley.

After a while, they all start to look the same!  Actually it is very cool but stopping at every one would make a half day trip into a three day trip!  We did it for the first time last September:

I agree.  No need to stop at every overlook, but there are a few that are outstanding.  We bought a CD at the visitor's center that allows for an audio tour, but the CD was set up for a north to south trip.  We were doing south to north.  The CD was good, but not good enough for us to turn around and ride the 105 miles again north to south.

Did you try playing the CD backward so you could have used it???  All of a sudden I have this thought about hearing words from the devil...

I need to check the HD website to see if there's a download for the radio that allows for playing the CDs in reverse.
