I used to use a similar retractable tether at work to hold my security badge, and for that purpose it did OK but even with a light weight plastic badge I had to replace them on a regular basis.  Looks like some rocket scientist at H-D saw one of those badge or key ring tethers and bought up a bunch of them when the Chinese had a big sale.

I wasn't impressed when they first came out and remember saying so, and while I feel bad for those who had stuff torn up due to this POS I also feel vindicated in my first impression and evaluation of this product.  I suggest Harley take the rest of that truckload they got real cheap and relabel them as key chains.  They can sell them in the motorclothes and accessories boutique.  If any of you decide to buy one, don't put any irreplaceable keys on it.

Yeah, trust me, you do NOT want that cable to break. It will bust up the whole side of the pack and it may never align up properly again. I would consider getting longer screws and doubling up the cables. That Ultra Brace is nice too.

...at least your TP was made out of fiberglass and repairable, these new ones are plastic and are junk when they break. I think about yours everytime I open mine, but haven't switched to the Ultra Brace yet. Hope your doing ok Mark and hurry home soon.  Doc

I'm going to order my ultra brace tonight at work.
They have a sale with $10 off right now!
Shipping to Canada was $34.95 but after I emailed
them they say they will refund some of the shipping
to make it down to $12.95.

I hear the tour pack hinges are nothing to write home about, is there a reasonably priced replacment that may not be invasive to the paint?   thanks  Randy

Reasonably price....NO, $60 for new HD hinges that are a lot sturdier and look a lot better. Didn't take pix of mine when I put them on though.

As far as upgraded hinges go.....the Harley ones are good looking, very sturdy, and a relative bargain. They came on my King TP , and I put them on my last TP as well....one of the best bang for buck shiny things you can get.
