Rhetor I was of similar mindset as you. My bike sold which left me bikeless touring bike wise so the hunt was on. After riding the new chasis I can say without hestitation the new chasis in a BIG improvement over the previous generation. With my aggressive style of riding the upgrade was worth it. The color choices I can understand, unfortunately the internet does nothing for the current batch of colors. I'm not a green fan however the green/tan Road Glide is a good looking bike, the red(ish) Ultra is equally as sharp (the only two I've seen outside of the orange RG). .... Take the hour ride when you get bored....
Puzzled . . . Beautiful scoot!!! And congrats on the score. Your pics to arr a great help. I know the 2008 forward scoots have all the engineering changes for a smooth ride and are worth it beyond comparison . . . Six speed, abs, new frame, wider rear, etc . . . I have no doubt when a SERK in a paint scheme I love comes out, I will pull the trigger for the upgrade in handling alone. I know there is simply no comparison between my first gen chassis, etc., and the 110 over my 103. Sure, I could pay 35k and immediately paint the tins, but kind of defeats the purpose of a CVO.
I just have not seen a paint scheme on a SERK since getting my 03 that equalled my pleasure of the Centennial Gold with burgundy and black accents. (The 07 red with gold accents came close, but then I am back to the old frame; and loved the 2011 Krypton, but had no desire for a Street Glide).
So, even with permission from the wife to pull the trigger on a new CVO Road King, and I definitely want the perks of the newest generation over my first gen engineering, being a purist on keeping CVO paint schemes and having an unwavering personal preference for the Road King styling, I am just going to have to wait.
If I am going to pay $35k, I am just too pickey!!! I want all the new bells and engineering whistles and a paint CVO paint scheme aI am excited about, without the cost of changing out to new painted tins. And, I am a patient guy, happy for others finding a new CVO they like.
But, I am not suffering! My first CVO was an upgrade from a Fatboy with the 88B. I still love the 03 SERK with all the detachable goodies and that bullet proof 103 with a PC Retro, V&H pipes, and Heavy Breather that really woke it up! (Accidentally stood it up the first time I took it out after changing pipes, breather, and adding the a power Commander. Scared me . . . Well, I had to change underwear!)
And, my 03 SERK only has 6700 miles on it. While I am sitting on the sidelines waiting for the PERFECT new SERK, I am still thrilled with my old scoot. I will take a pic and waves as you pass me on the interstate, a puzzled. I will try to keep up, just to get a better look at that beautiful scoot under you in those great pics you just posted!
