REO
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:38:12 PM »

Been a hell of a week Guys!!!

Took a ride down to Kankakee traveling south down rt50 in a construction zone with heavy congestion trying to get to rt17 a nice country road lazy ride back home when all of a sudden the car in front of me slammed on the brakes, bike did stop with probably 3-4 feet before hitting the car in front of me but just before coming to a complete stop the front wheel shot to the left. Probably due to the asphalt being slippery from the construction and me being so hard on the front brakes. It totally caught me by surprise, all I remember is the bike going to the left and me getting slammed to the right watching the bike skid as I landed directly on my right shoulder. I got the bike up with someones help and sat on the shoulder for probably 10 minuets catching my breath. I drove to a  doughnut shop got some water and took the smoothest ride home feeling every bump.

I got less nauseous but as time went on the pain told me it was obvious I had something wrong and with my suspicions battling my false hope I got my wife to drive me to the hospital. The results are that I broke three ribs and punctured my right lung. Wow... the lung is much better now not being fully inflated but not leaking anymore, the pain from the ribs are my current battle and its a one day at a time thing. Guess I will be on the mend for a bit. Just thought I'd let you guys know I'm alright but on the mend. Oh btw, the bike landed on the crash bars with the front peg getting bent back and the bottom of one of the extended bags got rubbed, minimal damage. Bottom line is I am ok, I have been in a couple incidents in the past but nothing like this, been thinking about this all week and how a little indecent like this became so serious....wow

Sorry to hear this, Reo...I'm very happy that both the bike and you are not seriously injured.  Those ribs will take a while to mend, so sit on the porch for a few weeks and watch.  Try not to laugh...or sneeze/cough.  Chit like that happens, just be glad it wasn't worse.   :2vrolijk_21:

Bottom line really is that you're ok and getting better.  Broken ribs just suck though.  Had to laugh at the unintended accuracy though.  Sometimes what we didn't quite mean is the best thing we might say ^ .  Amen to the indecency of it all.  Roads are meant to be ridden and not fallen on :2vrolijk_21: !

OMG Roy! :nervous: Glad your on the mend with minimal damage. I remember when I lived in Chicago reading about a guy that died when his bike fell over almost at a complete stop and hit his head on the curb. :nixweiss: Just never know. Prayed for ya and will be praying for a speedy recovery! Bless ya man! :2vrolijk_21:

Sorry to hear that you laid your MC down.  I hope you recover soon  :2vrolijk_21:  Did the car in front of you that slammed on their brakes get out and help you?

Wow, I got  weak in the knees before I could open and read the 1st post in this topic and see that you were not seriously hurt.  Not that the broken ribs and punctured lung are not 'hurt', but if I can heal from my broken ribs last summer at my age, you'll make it just fine.  As long as you get some decent pain meds for the immediate while.  Damn road construction and just way too much traffic/cages/trucks, etc. everywhere and no one is considerate of others anymore.  Even down our way, it's aggressive, all about 'me' driving and you know how that ends up......get better and hope the pain will let you rest some.  ;) spyder

Sorry to read about your accident, Reo...  Chit sure can happen fast, can't it.  Having suffered broken ribs in my past, it's a tough injury.  Everything you do hurts, even breathing.  Don't even think about laughing for a few weeks, and thank your stars you don't have a cold (I did when I had my broken ribs).

I'm thankful your injuries were not more serious.    :2vrolijk_21:

Heal quickly and completely, brother.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I know that I get too complacent at times; thanks for the reminder to ride safe.
