i'm one of the unwashed masses, so take this for what its worth.   but after reading the many posts on this gold key issue, it seems to me that hd got smart.  they gave out a special key, along with 2 others when you bought the bike.  most of the original owners kept the key when they traded the bike in, whether they perceived that the key had any value or not.  so now, instead of a key, you get a 'commemorative medallion' (or at least you're supposed to).  kindof like a military unit coin.  something that you can keep, and isn't going to wig out the new owner of your bike when you get rid of it.  me personally, i'd rather have the coin.

The packet from Harley arrived yesterday.  Gold coin, two dog tags, museum card etc...  Bike arrived around October 3rd

I received a gold key when I purchased my '05 SEEG.  I received my second gold key with my '08 SEUC.  Both will go with the bikes when they are sold.

However, with the purchase of my '08 I also received a nice Ride to Live - Live To Ride picture/plaque of my new bike with the model, serial #, dealer name, etc.  engraved on it along with the words "Custom Made for...".  Obviously this keepsake plaque will stay with me when I sell the bike due to my name being engraved on it.

I haven't read about this on any of the posts here and wondered if this additional nice gesture was a MoCo thing or particular dealer thing?

It was a dealer thing. In 2006 I had contacted the company that was making them for dealers and had a group buy set up here - Wall Plaque Of Your Motorcycle.

Gold Key?  What the hell is a Gold Key.  My 2000 CVO RG came with plastic key.  Still love it just the same!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will miss the Gold Key but in reality it just sat in my closet waiting for the next owner!
