After a lifter failure in our 2010 CVO Ultra, my wife and I have decided to step up to a 120R. Thanks to the many who offered advice in another (sorry I jacked it) thread on this motor change including:
Unbalanced, sadunbar, DCfiremann, Hillsidecycle, and Maladjusted.
It was a tough decision whether to build up our "old" (25,000 miles) 110, by making it into a 117, or whether to go for a 120R. After hearing both pros and cons regarding the 120R we decided to go ahead and take a chance on the 120R. It seemed like the 117 could be built to be a very reliable motor, but the cost would be pretty high. While the 120R is not inexpensive by any means, it looks like the more cost effective approach -at least as long as it holds together. I've heard some good reports on the 120R and am hoping it will be a good motor.
We are making a few changes before the motor goes in, including:
TMan 662-1 cams
S&S lifters
HPI 55mm modified stock throttle body
5.3 gm/sec SE injectors
Ventilator A/C
Roller Rockers and Billet Supports
We're also upgrading the clutch and installing one of Bud's oil coolers.
Many thanks to sadunbar for sharing his time and answering a bunch of questions!
Ralph
PS -Even though our 110 is the charcoal gray, we don't mind the new motor color being black. We're more interested in the better performance!
