At my work we are a huge PPG dealer and I could not get any of the actual Harley paint because we are not a certified Harley dealer. That is the only way to get the paint.

I had to have my top repainted for a scratch also (just about in the same area).  Had it done at Big Fatty's (Paint by Gene) who does the HD painting for the dealers in the Pacific NW.  I took the top off the tour pack, and they took the rack off the top and all the stuff attached on the inside and painted the entire top so the paint job would be perfect and match everywhere - then put it all back together.  They did a great job matching the paint - the top looks perfect!  He charged me $140.

If you consider the MSRP for a new bare lid painted to match your bike is about $800 from H-D, it makes the $280 sound a lot better also.

H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 40, hate 50, bewildered 10.

Great point Jerry. She is at HD now. Funny thing is the service manager said "this guy does a great job and he matches paint better than anyone we have ever seen" . So...$100 more for the CVO paint excuse is just that...an excuse.

No matter to me though, $280 is not a big deal when we paid $40K for a recreational vehicle!  :pepper:

A while back someone posted a paint scratch repair option which can be found here: http://www.langka.com/

I bought this and have used it multiple times.  While it is not perfect, it works pretty damn good once you've played with it a bit.  It's hard to imagine anyone more anal than me when it comes to flaws and scratches... but then again here on this CVO site, I'm sure we're all the same...

I've found that in some cases the deeper the scratch, the better this product works. Just gotta be patient and let the paint dry before removing the "blob"

On the many repairs I've made, NO ONE has ever noticed... It's only my eyes that can find it, and after some time passes, even I have forgotten where the repairs were...

And FWIW... I ride the hell outta my bagger. I get nicks/dings on the fairing and I have found minor scratches or what not on the Saddle Bag lids and TP especially near where the key lock is.  A well ridden bike is gonna get road nicks...  just my opinion.  Having the Langka kit handy with some HD matching touch-up paint has really put my mind at ease many times over.  I really like this product.

Good luck!

I've used the same Langka kit along with the H-D touch-up paint. Works nicely. I actually touched up some scratches on my fairing and to this day, nobody has noticed.

I had a difficult time finding anybody in the Baltimore area who would even consider paint repairs on a CVO. We have 2 strikes against us: The paint codes are not readily available AND many do not mess with water based paint. Maybe at some point I will get the fairing fixed properly, but I will have to send it away `cause nobody around here will touch it.  :(

Some jackass put a DEEP scratch above my lock (which I have NEVER used thanks the the power locks)on my tour pack. The dealer tried to buff it out, but it goes down to the plastic. I was quoted from the body shop the dealer recommended $280 to paint the top of the tour pack. He originally said it would cost $180, but the added cost was the price of paint from HD.

Questions:

1) Does $280 seem fair to paint the top of the tour pack? Seems a bit steep to me.

2) Does owning a CVO with limited paint increase the cost of the paint by $100, or is this a body guy seeing $$$ because it is a CVO?

Thought please.

Thanks

I got her back yesterday. I can not even tell the lid was painted. Funny part is they charged me the $180 originally quoted rather that the $280 they stated it would actually cost. Go figure. I looks even better at $180!!!

Just to add my 2 cents worth, I live in the Denver area and am fortunate to have Gunslinger Paints here. Right now they are the only authorized Factory Harley Paint Repair Facility in the U.S. I have a deep down to fiberglass 1" scratch on my SEUC3 and to get that fixed is $125.00 The down side is a 2 week wait. Well it's coming onto winter so riding is very limited and I have a date to take it in and get it done. The upside is, its at the factory authorized paint facility. So to my point, $280 seems high and $180 more reasonable. I thought $125 was high for a 1" scratch but what does an hour of their time cost? I have seen Gunslingers work and it is phenomenal. Just my thoughts.
