If we could order what we wanted it would take a year to get one. The dealer would install some of the parts and then upcharge and keep the parts they take off. I never agreed with my dealer who when I ordered chrome they didn't let me have the parts they took off. I agree with other posts, if we buy a CVO then most Screaming Eagle parts and improved parts should be already on the bike. Warranty, it seems only right to offer a limited five year like most vehicles. It seems like rods then would have true bearings then too.
I hope you only let them do that one time and you never went back... that is absolutely insane!!! :sauer005:

I am surprised you dealer does not give old parts back, the dealer I go to always gives the old parts back when you buy chrome usually old parts come in the box that the new were in.

As far as the Garage Door opener.... I have tried wiring it everyway I can think of on an 'Overhead Door' and I finally put it on the shelf. Cannot get it to function beyond 'clicking' at the manual door button.... but no door movement.

This may be a little $5 item but it drives me crazy!  We ordered a new 2013 CVO ultra Friday and for $37500 do you think it could have something better than the POS cabinet looking ugly stock tour pack hinges! I told the dealer that is pathetic on a CVO! Come on!

You are very right about the 'cabinet hinges' but rest assured, they will be most happy to take you hard earned money and install the hinges of your choice

I have always maintained that the lack heated grips was a curious omission for a touring bike, particularly one costing $30 large.  I would argue any CVO (or regular touring model for that matter) with saddle bags should also have heated grips.

I cannot help but compare BMW touring bikes to HDs based on purpose and price, not design.  For far less money, BMW gives you a real computer showing the status of the bike (mileage, temp, tire pressure) and heated grips.  I have ignored the design elements such as engine configuration, single sided swingarm and other Beemer traits.

I love my Softail dearly, but I think I paid an extra $10 grand to have something to clean every other weekend with very little, to no, improvement in actual function relative to non-CVO models, or HD competitors.

The newer CVO Ultras do come with heated seats and handgrips.  The odometer also tells distance to empty but not current fuel economy.  The low tire alert unfortunately is a wobble  ;)

Do you think a HOME link would work? It would need to weather proofed some way!!  Thoughts!!

Eventually as people upgrade to the latest garage door opener technology, the 1980's Harley design will no longer be viable and they will either have to join the modern world or just stop selling the junk.  And yes, HomeLink would be an answer.  There actually was a company offering a HomeLink setup for bikes some time back, but I haven't seen anything from or about them in quite awhile.  It wouldn't be difficult on a Touring bike to install the transmitter in the fairing and just have a simple button on the dash.  That's basically what I did except I didn't use a HomeLink setup but just a spare transmitter from my Chamberlain door opener.  Works much better than the POS system Harley included with my bike, with much better range and reliability.
