Harry - I'm not sure I understand why the power in 4th would be different from the power in 5th or even 6th

I mean what's different? Power is power surely?

Tq I can just about make myself believe would be higher in lower gears but I'm not really sure why

As I recollect there was a similar discussion (I was invloved - but didn't really understand) about the benefits of 6th gear as an overdrive as against 6th as a 1:1 and the rest as a close(r) ratio box

Am I missing something real obvious here

Dave,

It has to do with torque multiplication and power loss through the gear box, and mostly it has to do with the way an inertia dyno works.

Blue Lines are the base pull on the dyno with the mods installed then after they tuned it on several runs they they did a final pull and compared it to the first pull.

Unfortunately what you don't know is whether the motor was at operating temp before the first pull was taken.  2nd they did the pull in 4th gear really isnt indicative of the numbers the bike may or not make and Jerry is correct about the way the dyno works.

the 2nd thing that concerns me is they only took an hour to tune the bike based on first run and last run ... .To tune using the race tuner correctly it takes even a great dyno guy a mininmum of 3 to 4 hours and generally its more if you go off volumetirc efficiency.

The 3rd thing is they didnt give you a fuel curve or if they did its not posted here.   I would really like to know what the dyno pulls looked like from each cyclinder and then a final pull.

Please dont take this as I am picking on your dyno or you or the bike,  I am not trying to pick apart your dyno run by any means I am just trying to give more information for others so that they can be a bit more versed when they pay to have a bike dyno'd.

Flying Ace,

What it sounds like to me is that they got it on the dyno they installed map 86 they ran it a few times and maybe tweaked a fuel table here or there the problem is the base harley maps are all over the place in regards to Volumetric Efficiency if you trust those tables you will be disappointed cause if they were correct and you can test this any time you want to ... you should be able to change a fuel table if the volumetrics are right and see the change occur in your map.   You won't see this...    What it takes is the shop to take both your fuel tables and set them to say 13 to 1 .... then go to each cyclinder and tune all tables so that your map is flat at 13 to 1 by volumetric efficiency and then a bit of timing then go on to the 2nd cylinder and do the same thing .... Once done this will prove that your efficiencies are correct and now when you change your tables  you will be very close to the changes you made .... remember it will not be exact since the environment / heat have effects.

hope this helps some more to understand why it takes so long with the Race Tuner.

I would definately seek out another tuner that is familiar with the race tuner and I would expect you to pay for 4 to 6 hours of time at a minimum depending on the shop.   It should if they do it right with cycling of heat take about 8 to 10 hours .... 3 to 5 of those are the runs the remainder is letting everything cool down even with the fans.

You will also want them to do a run or 2 in say 3 / 4 gear going through the power ranges or throttle positions to make sure the bike isnt running lean or rich and you will be able to see if it spudders / pukes / runs great.

Remember dynoing is not just about WOT and a lot of guys loose sight of that.

I had my 07 CUSE run twice (1K service) bone stock 2 months ago: after a few passes to get everything up to temp and equalized it ran 82.35HP & 98.75FT-LBS.

Again last Thursday after having installed Ness Big Sucker and V&H True Duals and Flat Ovals at home and then trailering to the shop where the SERT and base map were installed we eventually flattened out at 87.28HP & 110.89FT-LBS and A/F is at an average of 12.94 (13.55 early and and continues to drop to 12 near the end)

I'm pretty pleased. It took about two and a half hours total time and well worth it. I'm not totally pleased with the HP but the torque is awesome. Had some warm weather Thursday and Friday and the useable power from 2400RPM to 5500RPM is unreal. Now I have cams on order and it looks like the V&H are going to be for sale too. Rineharts or a good 2-1 are necessary. I really want to get square with the numbers. (113 - 113 with the same A/F)

HDFatboy which cam's are you looking at for the CUSE with the 110 motor?

Your numbers are very consistent with the bikes that have been tuned 108 - 110 tq / 9x hp

Harry,
I'm awaiting two sets: Andrews 59HG & Woods TW-8G. I want to see both sets side by side. My dealer will return the unused set for me. Both sets are gear drive. I've always been kinda partial to Andrews though. Had the EV37 in my 92 Fat Boy. I just dont know about volumetric efficiency of the heads so a little work there may be needed along with springs and valves. I still want reliability too.

Yes the numbers are consistent with others but I think changing to Rineharts (bump in HP but sag in Torque) combined with the cams could give it just that little bump.
