Our test mule is due here next week. While it's a 103 and not a CVO it's all about learning what does and doesn't need to happen to be able to tune them properly.

If the mule is a wethead, I recently read something that seemed to suggest that the "tuning" capabilities of these new motors is way different (less) than a regular air cooled model.  Or maybe I didn't understand what I was reading.

IMHO I don't see much of a change in the heads other than the cooling passages
there is a small bump in compression with shaved heads according to the factory guy answering all my questions.
.040 head gasket
Same valves, spring pack etc
new cams new intake same exhaust system (this was a flhtk we were looking at)
I took a bunch of pics of the cutaway but wont be able to post anything till I get home
Don't really see why there would be much difference in tuning really from the 2013

I want to know how they got to 10:1 CR with a .040" head gasket.... that's only .015" thinner than before. I wonder how much they shaved the heads.

The old Evo Police E-glides had heads shaved .050". I guess something in that neighborhood would do it even with stock pistons and stroke. Shaving heads was a common practice on Evos.

Question for the builders here: Do you head guys shave 110" heads these days, or it that an outdated practice? I have not seen that mentioned anywhere, and now I'm curious...  :nixweiss:

Where/what did you read?

Dead_Reckoning sent me a link (sorry I forget, maybe he'll see this and list it) in which the writer stated that the air cooled bikes ECU varied the timing to compensate for temperature differences but that these new watercooled models would not do that. Sorry I don't have more to share other than that.

Someone is being misinformed at least on the 103 engine anyways. Positive values are where the Twin Cooled has more spark and negative values are less than the air cooled. I see almost 9 degrees more in some areas. Once we have our 103 handled I will be looking for a CVO to start into next.
