My decision to go with the Corbin was based on my previous experience with the stock FLH pillow touring seat on my '99 FLHTC, and also the Mustang I replaced it with.
At about 10,000 miles, the stock seat on the '99 was pretty well shot. I felt like I could count the rivets in the pan on the long days. For us, a long day is anything over 500, so after our first trip from Atlanta to Sturgis, the stock seat went into the trash and I put on the Mustang seat that matched the stocker pretty closely.
I rode the '99 for over 40,000 miles with the Mustang, and it too has now gotten to the point that I feel as I am sitting on the seat pan after the first couple hundred miles in a day.
I've just plain worn out the seats. I'm 6'4" and 200 lbs for reference.
When I got the new bike, I was worried about the stock seat holding up for the miles I'll put on the bike, so I decided to take the plunge now while the stock seat, an expensive piece in the P&A catalog, is new and worth something on ebay. I have also read here that some of the stock seat on the 07's were showing signs of wear pretty early.
So far, I am very pleased with the Corbin. No long rides yet, but I'm liking it more and more with each ride. The seat / butt interface is mating up nicely. I don't know what piece adapts, and don't care, as long as the two pieces fit nicely in the end. (No pun intended)
Stock seats are great for the showroom; they look and feel nice to sit on. I personally like the look of the stock seat on the Jester, and wondered if I was doing the right thing by getting rid of it with no miles on it. I hope I made the right choice. Only time will tell, when when Pinkie and I do the "Bentonville Blast" to see her folks. That ride, 750 in a day, is our reference ride. If we can do that one and not feel beat up after it, then we know things are good.
