Metric
« on: November 15, 2013, 04:18:49 AM »

Bought my first Harley, 2008 CVO Ultra Classic Screaming Eagle . Nice bike really sharp , just don't like the way it rides think I may sell or trade and go back to metric ( royal star or maybe gold wing) I really thought I made a step up with Harley but starting to think I just bought a name after reading a lot of post on here . I do think y'all are great guys who know your stuff.

People ride what they ride for different reasons, one must ride what pleases them and never be swayed by other peoples thoughts. If I pass you on a Gold Wing, I will return a wave. To me my scoot is a part of my being.....have never been able to say that about any other recreation

There are certainly many good things about the metric cruisers and there are certainly many drawbacks to Harley Davidson products.  However, being part of the HD family is more than just the equipment; there is history here, tradition, some would say "mystique".  After this post some will say we are a "brotherhood of pain" but I'm not one of them.  I have been on a Harley since 1965 and love it now just as much as my first ride.  I like customizing my bike, I like making it look good and riding with a group, I like the get-togethers, I like the clothing, and as mad as I have been (over the years) at the MoCo I have never considered leaving.

Some would say that is the definition of insanity; perhaps, but when I'm out there, flyin' in the wind, engine thumpin', tunes pumpin', a few "waves" from other owners, it all makes sense to me.

Give it a few weeks, a few longer rides, hook up with some folks, take a look at other bikes and see what you might like to do to yours.  You might just change your mind, if not, sail on, you gave it a shot.

I have a '09 CUSE, had a '07 before that. The new frame made a world of difference to me. I have talked to others that say not so much.

I agree on the new frame being more stable. My 08 RK used to have that wobble until I did the Progressive stabilizer and  940 shocks. My 11 SESG handles great without any suspension upgrades.

Had the same decision to make this year cvo ultra at nearly £30,000 or Honda gold wing with all the toys for £20,000 the Honda was for the money a bargain, and even if it cost the same would probably be the best value bike but I bought the cvo. To me it is in your soul, riding any bike is one of life's greatest pleasures but on a Harley it just makes me smile and enjoy the experience even more, and what ever bike does that for you buy it ! And enjoy.

I have a Goldwing and a CVO Ultra.....both great bikes. The Harley has "soul"....it lets you know you are operating a machine and gives you feedback while you are in the saddle. The Goldwing just runs, much like an electric motor.....quiet, effortless and smooth. The closest comparison I can make is the HD is like flying an airplane with a radial engine (DC-3, B-17, Stearman, etc.)...you need to monitor it, tweak it and finesse it. The Wing is like a turbo-prop...spool it up and go. When I need to do some 600+ days, I take the Wing. Everything else is the HD.

I'll bet those two have some great conversations once the garage lights go out!

Love to help, where are your handling issues? Height, nose dive in the front end, rough riding, issues getting rolling, getting stopped? All kinds of mods just need to know what needs help.
