Have a tender on all our scoots.  I just replaced the ORIGINAL battery in the 97 FXDWG (bought new in Nov 1996) in September this year!  That's almost 10 years!  The battery date code verified it.  I couldn't believe it.  I never replaced it in the 01 Ultra, 5 yrs and 40k miles.  I don't think we ever replaced her 01 SERG battery either.  I've even put one on her 72 Chevelle, just because it almost never gets run.  Once I finish putting electric in the barn, I'll have at least a couple for the tractors and farm truck.  Definite believer.

The replacement battery in my 02 Ultra was in service for 2 years 5 months and still cranking when I traded.

I got 5 years out of my OEM battery in my '02 Ultra, using the battery tender during the winter months, and it was still cranking like the day I bought it when I traded it in on the Jester last week.

I keep my battery tender on all the time...just make it a habit to hook it up when I'm done with my ride.  I've been told that by doing this it will extend the life of the battery by at least 2x. (don't know if it's true until my battery dies).  I figure it surely can't hurt, since it's a trickle charge and only comes on when the voltage is down.  For the cost of the tender, it's a no brainer IMHO.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Has anybody had any experience with Odyssey batteries?  They claim to be the cat's meow when it comes to deep cycle resilience and cold cranking power.

Wouldn't you be able to get some kind of warranty replacement on the battery now?

OK, did a search on battery chargers and really didn't find an answer.

I know the batteries go down on the bikes but especially it seems with the SEUC.

My question is, "Does everyone keep a tender on all the time?

I didn't through the summer and almost got caught a couple of times when out of town and the bike sat for a couple weeks.

Now I have it on for the winter so I won't have a let down if the rain ever stops.

I used to think this wasn't a big deal........but now that I've done it, I feel alot better.  I'm already in the habit of plugging it in after every ride and checking on it at least once each day.  Works good.

Soon you will not worry about checking it at all. Mines has been plugged in since middle of October. I have only checked it a couple of times. Then again I can't ride and seeing my bike might be tempting.

Have 4 hanging from my ceiling in the bike garage and all 4 plugged into something!
They are not any good unless you use them!

Keep mine plugged in all the time.  If I think about it, when I walk by the bike going out the garage, I'll look over to make sure the LED is green, other than that, I don't worry about it.  It's just a habit now when I park the bike in the garage.  Right after I shut her down, I plug her in.  It's worked for me.

Same here. Keep mine plugged in all the time, even in the summer when we're not riding. Put one on my folks car recently since it only gets driven about twice a month. (not by them fortunately) Before that the battery would be dead but now it's always ready to go.....

Ok, that really hit home. I bought a tender 2 winters ago and had never used it. I guess I just was putting off hooking up the leads to the battery. Well, you shamed me into taking action, no more procrastination. Now it's hooked up and charging away. Thanks!

Around the last Christmas holidays I went out to fire up the bike and ride only to discover that when I turned on the bike there was nothing.....I mean nothing, no lights, stereo or any kind of electronics. It was like some one had flipped a switch, or maybe blew a fuse. I put a slow charge on the battery and was back and running the next day. I promptly went out and bought a battery tender plus.   My bike now stays plugged in anytime i'm not riding and I like to ride year round along as its dry. It does get pretty cold here in Oklahoma, lows sometimes can get down to single digits, but as long as the afternoon warms up into the 40's or 50's then i'll ride to work. I can handle the cold much better than in the summer time when its 100+ degrees.  I can dress up for the winter but can only dress down so far for the summer.  We'll see how the battery tender does over time, but I sure feel better going out to the garage and seeing that little mystical green light glowing at me. And if memory serves me right, the local H.O.G. chapter is having their annual C.A. run this weekend. Last year it was 19 degrees when I left the house for that 150 mile run. I had a blast and was probably the warmest one there with the heated grips and seat, I almost felt guilty, but not quite.

Use the Battery Tender all the time!!!! Have the quick connect/disconnect hooked to the battery and ran under the seat. All I have to do is plug it up when bike is parked and never worry.
