Wife wanted a big yard.  I think everything should have a purpose.  So we compromised:  Driving Range

John Deere 4020 Diesel tractor pulling a 17ft. Bush Hog finishing mower.  Trim mower is a John Deere 495 Diesel Lawn Tractor with a 62" deck.

Pick up golf balls and mow: 4 hrs.

This thread must contain bad juju.  My lawn mower crapped out last night.  About an acre and a half mowed and just over an acre to finish up.  Don't have time to rip apart the engine on the mower either.  But the damn thing is smoking so much I have to ride with a tail wind or choke to death.  Stupid mower deserves :behead: .

Built a house next to my inlaws. Bought a brand new craftsman mower with all the bells and whistles. Had my father in law try it out on his lawn. 7 years later, still don't know how long it takes to mow my 1/2 acre.... I am riding while he mows it!!!!

Bought a ZTR 42" near the last of last season.  1/2 acre 35 mins.  Took some time to get the hang of it and some anxious moments as was heading down hill toward trees.  Getting better at not turfing the lawn also!   :)

I think I'd use a lot of bad words on a 42" mower after scalping it as fast as I can go with a 54" deck.  Don't even want to think about how many extra passes around the yard that extra foot of cut width would cost me.

I hate mowing.  What I really need is some dwarf grass that could be sown then just overtake all the other grass and weeds in the yard.  Then, once it's done it would only need to be mowed like three times a year.

Anyone invent dwarf grass for me?  Please?

I cheat. The neighbor is very anal about his yard and as many hours as I put in at work, I can easily afford to pay him to do it.  :2vrolijk_21:

What's mowing the grass? I've got twin teenage boys so I haven't done it in quite awhile lol.

I got tired of mowing so we moved from Maryland to Nevada.  Our lawn is desert landscaping (rocks).  I don't even have to clean gutters either because we have no gutters.  Ride Sally, ride.

ZTR is the bomb. Picked up a demo Gravely 48" commercial unit a few years back and while it's rated at 10 mph my lawn (1.5 acres of hay) is too rough to run that fast. Would like to dethach the entire place, run a sprinkler system and roll the dirt to make it smooth then reseed. Lots of poplars so the leaves are a bitch in the autumn. Thinking about picking up a bagger system but they aren't cheap for a commercial unit. A zero maintenance yard further south is sounding really good.

I hired a lawn service years ago. I wave bye as I ride off on my CVO!
We manage our gardens ourselves, but it's nice to have someone else cut the grass and blow the leaves since it is a weekly effort that otherwise would cut into my sacred riding time.
