What are you thoughts on the 2014 CVO Roadking?
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:03:54 PM »

I keep wanting to buy a CVO Roadking but am not a big fan of the 2014 after seeing it in person. The lack of a detachable windshield is a bummer. But even more troubling is the lack of chrome on the sissy bars, handlebars, forks, turn signals, etc. Since when is an excessive amount of chrome a bad thing? Curous to hear what others think.
Maybe I am just stuck in the past?

Did you consider a 2013? I say this not only because I have a near new one for sale but they are loaded with chrome and the passenger sissy bar comes with it along with a lot of other chrome extras I installed.

Not sure what 2014 you saw. But my screen is detachable. As for sissy bar, they are an extra, so you can have chrome or black

I did not like the 2013 either.  The fixed lowers were odd and the speakers in the back saddlebags reminded me of a boat.  I really don't need a radio on a bike.  I should have said the 2014 does not have a "quick release" windshield" so as long as you have some tools you can still remove the windshield.

Sounds like you should look at something besides the SERK.

The 2014 DOES have a "quick release" windshield.  I have a 14 SERK and absolutely love the bike.  I think it has a perfect mix of chrome and black.  Sounds like you need to wait for a bike you like better though.

Not sure what bike he looked at, my 2014 SERK, screen comes off in seconds, not tools required.

As a new owner with 2500 miles there are some things like and some I don't but it is all personal preference.

I like the engine, a lot.
I like the low, mean feel it has while riding.
I like the rims and tires, rims for looks and tires for ride and grip.
I like the FOB with no ignition switch.
I like the way it handles at all speeds, especially around triple digits.

I don't like the seat, it's not good, and the passenger seat is a joke.
I don't like that there are no saddle bag crash bars, Harley should be ashamed.
I don't like the little round mirrors.
I don't like the passenger pegs, needs floor boards.
I don't like having to stop in the rain to put on the air filter cover.

Just goes to show we all have different views, on your points above:

I don't find an issue with the seat, nor does my wife
One of the reasons I bought the bike was to get rid of the crash bars, if your pillion is short, the saddle bag guards push on their calves
Mirrors are fine for me, quite like them
Don't have an issue with passenger pegs, nor does my wife
You can leave the rain sock on, if its an issue, there are plenty of articles that show, the sock doesn't affect performance.

..........that's funny b/c i was thinking the same exact thing.  i love that there are no crash bars on the bags.  in fact i used to have a 2008 RK standard and i replaced the crash bars for just the saddle bag supports like that are on the CVO.  Reason was my wife's calves were bothered by the guards.  And I like the Round mirrors.  I think they are cool and different.  And that seat to me is very very comfortable.  It's the only harley seat i've sat on that i didn't want to change.
