It was a sample made for zippers by a well known filter company...I was trying to locate one and someone came
across the web site and emailed me saying that they had what I was wanting...
It was plain luck...and I think it looks great.

Oh Yeah...Thanks to Grover for the help on the cover and the idea...

Barry

Hey there Don-

I didn't read all the pages of this thread so I don't know what you decided on.

I like the look of the open filter. It shows off the engine better & gives much better breathing. I've run the open filter now for a few years and rarely run the football cover.

With the lowers in place, riding in the rain isn't an issue. On the road I carry a medium Saran cover on the bike and place it over the filter (if raining) when bike is parked to keep it dry. I also use it when washing, it works great.

If you ride without the lowers just watch the weather forcast. It takes just a second to bolt on the football cover before a ride. A light shower while on the road w/o lowers hasn't hurt anything for me in the past.

With the exposed filter, the only problem I've run into is that the K&N oil bleaches out after a couple of weeks if it's been very sunny. So you'll be oiling it more often.

Take care,

Grover

Mark, the more I screw with this the less I want to (screw with it anymore).  I like the look of the little lid too.  Precisely because you can see so much more behind it.  I don't take the lowers off either.  I have just about convinced myself that the little lid isn't going to be just the interim solution but that it will be the final solution too.

I take the exigent bike cover that folds up so small with me on road trips.  So if the bike needs to get parked in the rain at a hotel or someplace the whole thing can get covered.  The baggie idea is a good one for things like stopping for meals when the weather is wet though.  Pretty sure now I'm going to give this a try.  Of course I could decide different when I'm sober again next year.

A dealer near me has one of the painted "real flame" air cleaner covers like what Don has on his bike in stock and on the shelf.  Did not look at the price, but if someone's interested I'll call back and find out and can go get it for you and mail it to you.

I was surprised to see it there today since the only other one I'd seen anywhere was Don's.

OK, I have succumb to my OCD once again, couldn't leave well enough alone........Ordered the open flame football cover and am kinda liking it without the mesh and an insert.  What do y'all think?  The pic isn't real clear, looks better in person
