Oh, and I think there's more than one here that has a wing parked next to their HD. :2vrolijk_21:

I've not owned a Wing before, but I had a V-65 Magna along side my CVO's for many years.  A very fast, fun ride!   :2vrolijk_21:

Good, bad or indifferent......keep us posted on your wing vs. HD touring bikes thoughts, experiences, etc.

Keep us posted Chip.  Oh, and I think there's more than one here that has a wing parked next to their HD. :2vrolijk_21:  I had an Aspencade for a short period of time, years ago.....a fine motorcycle.

I appreciate your post.
I have read many opinions in this thread.
Coming from you, a member that actually has ridden the ride rather than talk about it I do appreciate your thoughts.
I bought this Wing not because it was better or worse than my Harley's but for the experience. As I said, I'm dedicated to my Harley's, but not so stupid to believe everything else is junk. With only a few miles I have put on the Wing (damn rain) the only sure thing I have determined is that it is different from what I'm use to. As I compile some miles I will decide if it stays in the stable or goes.
I will keep everyone posted, be it good bad or ugly.

I'm still upset that you couldn't make the Maggie Valley GTG. Maybe next year. Who knows, you come next year and I may put you on a Moto Guzzi!

Good catch Arland.
Those mirrors are huge.
Nancy has mentioned a few times she can see everything behind us from the passenger seat.
We checked, the Wing mirrors are bigger than the ones on her car.

Beautiful bike riding instrument Chip! Congrats. That blue is 'almost' as purdy as HD blue.

I will come clean and confess that as the saga of the new RG model unfolded I too thought about getting something more sensible (as it were) like the wing or the new Indian touring model. I am hoping that due to relentless intervention attempted by my riding buddies I will end up with the blue or black RG Special as intended by mother nature. But you never know.

Cam

FYI I was about to purchase one of these and ended up with a CVOBO, so... :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

If'n I would have known you were looking at the Rune I might have sold my RED one. Would keep it if it was blue. Well maybe not. Too many toys something has to go if the job runs short.

IMO the Rune looks great in any color. I sold the silver car in the pic for the same reason: too many toys. It had no top/side curtains, i.e. I could only drive it when the weather was perfect, which is when I ride the bike. So it had to go. :(

In 1980, at the ripe age of 25, I purchased my 4th motorcycle, but my first new bike. A Honda GW Interstate. It was a big deal in 1980 as this was the first "full dress" factory bike ever. Absolutely loved it. Put over a hundred thousand miles over the next 6 years. Never had one problem with it. Took a break from riding from the late 80's to early 2000 due to all the normal family and work issues. In 2002, my brother in law and sis moved to our area. He had several bikes so he started loaning me one to go on rides. So the MC bug had bit me again and I just assumed it would be a new GW, but the wife had different ideas and wanted an HD. We had ridden my BL's Road King several times and the wife loved it. More so than me, but happy wife, happy life, so I went out and purchased an almost new ( 110 miles ) 2003 EG Standard. Eventually the HD bug bite me too and I found I was very comfortable on them. In 2006, I bought my 06 CUSE and was loving it as well, but in the back of my mind, I still wanted a GW. In 2007, with the wifes blessing, I bought a new 2008 GW, but kept the HD.   Over the next year I put 18K miles on the Wing, but I just wasn't as comfortable on it as the HD. It was also interesting to see the responses, or non responses, from other riders. Many HD riders won't even acknowledge a Winger. So in late 2008, we decided to purchase a lake home and needed some cash so we sold the GW. It's a great bike, but it just wasn't the bike for us. Last October, I purchased a new HD Limited. Love it very much, but if money were no object, there is room in the garage for something like the striped down GW F bike.   :-\

Not knocking anything anyone chooses to ride as I have rode them all. At this point in my life, 3 electric drills in my toolbox is all I need. Enjoy the new ride Chip!!!

We took a trip to Maggie Valley and back this weekend on the Wing.

A couple thoughts on the Wing.

1)    We got 40 mpg going to the Valley, 42 coming back. The 01 and 03 get about the same, the 11.5 and 12 two up usually do the same ride at 45 to and 47 coming back.
2)    The Wing pulled/climbed Black Mountain no different from the Harley's.
3)    Like the 01 and 03 the Wing feels like it needs a sixth gear.
4)    The Wing seems to have more storage capacity than the Harley's.
5)    People on Harley's don't wave back as much when your on a Wing as when your on a Harley.
6)    The Wing motor seems almost turbine like in the sounds it makes. I guess when the exhaust doesn't make sound it's easier to hear the motor.
7 )   We prerode two rides scheduled for the MV GTG. On the curvy roads the Wing seemed to handle as good as the Harley's. Although being new to the bike I didn't push it hard.
8 )   Dave was right. Even for a 5'9" guy the Wing needs more leg room. I need to change the highway pegs to feel more comfortable.
9)    We rode 550 miles and not a tick, a cough or burp from the motor.
10)  Having a reverse is the greatest thing about a Wing.
11)  The seat on a Wing is huge. Until I get the highway pegs in the right place on the Wing the seat on the Harley's (all of them) are more comfortable.
12)  The weather this weekend was perfect and it reflected the time it took to clean up the Wing when we got home. Clean the three bugs off the windshield (three bugs in 550 miles,WHOHOO) and use Royal Blue Detail Spray to wipe the bike down and 30 minutes later I was done. The Harley's take at least an hour to 90 minutes to clean after a ride.
13)  Did I mention how damn nice it is to have a reverse?
14)  Nothing can replace the thrill of riding the Harley's but based on money invested the Wing is a hell of a deal.
15)  Plus, the Wing is blue.

The fun has just begun. I researched Wings a bunch, joined a Wing forum, have learned a lot about them. This weekend we rolled over the first thousand miles on the Wing. Sometimes you pay your money then take your chances. For a bike (even though it's blue) that can go as quickly as it came I'm thinking the Wing has a home here. If only the Stelvio wasn't so tall.

Looks like some kind of a wind deflector. Mirror is up by the windshield.

But does it have self cancelling turn signals?
