Back to the original poster's question, I spoke with a HD sales person the other day and he had 7 new CVO's on the floor.  I just don't think either the 14's or 15's (particularly the 15's) had the instant wow of some of their predecessors.  My personal favorites have been the springers between 07' and 09', and many of the touring models from 06' to 13".  That being said I pray every day that my 13' Breakouts don't develop rust problems like some of the members have had happen here on the forum.

With reference to 14's and 15's.  In the past you could justify the added upfront cost of a CVO knowing that it would retain some of that higher cost in higher resale.
Now you can buy a 4-5 year old CVO within a $3k of non-CVO edition.
A used $40k CVO sells used for $20.  A used $22K ultra sells used for $17K.
Just pulling numbers out of my backside, but you get the point.

Well, actually...just pulling numbers "out yer backside" doesn't really bolster your point when they are way skewed... or just totally made up.
The reference one uses should be a bit more accessible. Comparing NADA "average retail" argues against your assertion.
Now, maybe you're talking trade-in? Anecdotal evidence? I dunno, what you're working with, but the numbers I can research at NADA say that the CVO differential remains intact.
Example:
2010 Ultra: 17,700
2010 CVO: 30,700
2013 Ultra: 21,600
2013 CVO: 37.200

Now, you can say that they don't sell for that, (NADA is lying) or you didn't get offered that on trade, but that's where the numbers are right now, according to NADA online. NADA numbers are said to represent actual selling history. Their numbers are based on DEALER sales and are likely higher than what individual sales prices run but the differential would still be there.
If you're talking trade-in a similar differential still applies though the numbers will of course be lower.
I keep hearing folks cynically saying that they aren't selling CVOs for CVO prices...
But I'll be damned if *I* can find those 40,000 dollar bikes being offered for 20K in MY town. Where are these phantom deals?

NADA is not representative ANYWHERE!

New 13 CVO's can be had for $31k-$33k
New 13 Ultras can be had between $19.5 and $20.5k
all across the US.
Check ebay and Cycletrader.

Simple fact is the CVO has lost it's luster. It's a mechanical menace. It's unreliable (in general), It's overpriced and only makes sense if you HAVE to have it which some of us do! LOL

You just posted numbers of your own that reinforce a 12K differential. Then you maintain it doesn't apply?
OK, you've got me.

(A new '13?)
BTW: a new CUSE8 MSRP was 37.7. If there are still new '13s on the floor and they're ONLY discounting them 4 or 5K I'd be surprised.

Believe it or not I have seen a couple in the last few days STILL listed OVER MSRP ????????????????????????
Hard to find them $30k or under NEW

The point is the CVO neither holds it's value IN the showroom nor used nor at trade in! It's just like the BMW or Volvo that looks so hot on the showroom floor and at 100k is worth LESS than 35% of new. Dealers are trying to push used 50k mile svo's but end up selling them for a pittance. I recently met a man who was the smiling new owner of a 2013 cvo road glide ultra. 50k miles. Sale price? $16,500... What did that poor sap that traded it in get???

The HD CVO glory days are long past ........

MrSurly, I pulled those numbers out my backside indeed.  But if its any consolation I i wiped with an NADA book.

My numbers are based on what I see them for sale on craigslist and ebay.  Probably more accurate to measure what they actually sell for.

I watched 3 2014 cvo limiteds on ebay 2 red and 1 silver/autumn.  None of them sold.  One red one got one bid at $30k.

This is just a quick grab from a current craigslist add in Chicago area      http://lasalle.craigslist.org/mcd/4617065420.html
asking @$26k for a 10 cvo ultra.
One just like it at the dealer in Dekalb you can have for same or less $$'s
2009 cvo ultra with 42k on the speedo is on craigslist for $20.6
AND none of these are sold at that price.
I put my 09 on craigslist for $26k not one call.  If I really needed to sell it I would probably be $21k.  Regular 09 ultras for $16-17.

You can wave NADA in any buyers face but most are going to see what the asking price is on craigslist and ebay.  What a dealer is asking and what they sell it for sometimes are very different numbers.

The day that KBB or NADA have a "Buy It Now" button on their websites is the day their prices matter.

I already made my deal. Got what I wanted for my trade ($25,500), add tax advantage (what the trade allowed me to save in taxes) for my area and that's like selling it outright for $27,030. I am happy with that and allows the dealer room to make money but doing what I don't want to do....sell it to a private party.  :drink:

Heres the first one that came up in houston.  Asking price 25.9.  Selling price ????
NADA probably doesn't know about one handed latches, infotainment centers, and other project flushmore goodies.  $30.7 for a 2010 CVO ultra "Nada chance" pun intended.
