Ever notice the longer a thread lasts the further it gets from the original post and intent?  lol

I don't think anyone really CARES how much anyone else rides.
It just amazes me that there are bikes out there that someone hasn't ridden!

Me for one cannot resist............  :2vrolijk_21:

just be glad that there are people out there who only manage 1 or 2k per year.  that leaves a good selection of used bikes to choose from.

One way to look at it.  However I see it as really hurting those of us who ride our bikes lots.

Here is what I mean, my two year old bike for sale with 44K on it, and some ones garage jewelry that is the same year, make and model as mine for sale with 4K on it.  Pretty much makes it impossible to sell my bike, or I take a huge beating.

Very good point and well said.

Although I hate the idea of losing or wasting money.....
I made the purchase new already knowing this will not be investment for return of dollars but rather an investment for return on pleasure. When I look down and see 1800 miles on my one month old $41K purchase, all I say to myself is I'm going to squeeze at least a minimum of $42K worth of fun from this mfer before its over!

Yeah I agree jpswino...you buy your Harley to please you, not everyone else. Those that buy one to please others...i.e. just to be seen on a Harley are the ones with two year old bikes with only two thousand miles on them.
Ride it till the wheels fall off...then fix'er up...and ride it some more.
Stay Safe!

I, too scratch my head when I see bikes with very low mileage.  But, like has been said above, everyone has their own priorities.

One thing that I think I've noticed (not very scientifically) is that there have been FEWER of these low-mileage bikes.  I watch eBay and craigslist occasionally, especially when I'm getting ready to buy/trade.  I feel like I see more average to high-ish mileage bikes than I did 8-10 years ago.

It could just be my imagination, too.

Personally, I do remember 1 year in particular where I only was able to put 1252 miles on my (then Road King).  It is tough for young parents who are in the middle of hatching new offspring!  Even now with teenagers, I don't ride as often as I'd like because it's tough to pack more than 1 passenger on these bikes!

I have a few friends that ride almost daily. They have never ridden over 5 miles at a time. They live less than 3 miles from their favorite bar, and only bar hop. I never ride with or around them, but they love to ride. Just not too far between beers.
Trade their bikes every year or two. They trailer to Myrtle Beach and Daytona every year and think they have done something special. They have, they have fun and to each their own!
Of course this is frm the guy that has left his bike at home for the last 3 Maggie Valley GTG's.
I did ride to New England the last two years.

Its people buying into the dream and life style.

They see people riding and touring and think it is for them.

Kinda like a pool.
When I moved into our new development...I was the only on my street without a pool and took allot of ribbing....now a few years later, everyone says that I am the smart one.

And what about boats.....I see so many boats that only get taken out once or twice a year!!!

Me and my wife both ride....my 2010 has 85k on it and she has 31k on her 2011 Deluxe.
My neighbor has a 2012 SE Streetglide with 1500. :nixweiss:

On a parallel I would say i really like sex so i do it once a month. ;) Make sense? Just like," I really love to ride so i rarely do". As far as ROI I need to ride these things to get my "worth out of it.

Oh I have a pool too, PITA!

'Picked up the '09 SERG in June '12 with 2,420 miles on it. The original owner (lives in PA) had it for 44 months. He took about a $10k hit (with his mods - not counting taxes, insurance & interest) selling it to me, some very expensive miles for him. I guess he did save on oil changes and tires though...

'Picked up the '05 SEEG 5/5/05 with 625 miles on it, the original owner had it for 6 months, I paid close to MSRP for it. He did have to add $ to the payoff.

I think the statistics say the average Harley owner does 4k / year.

We had a "good" last 12 months doing > 30k between the 2 baggers, only about 300 miles on the '01 Switchblade (the '01 will be looking for a new home soon ~ I could use the garage space, since we don't ride it much at all anymore)

Miles cost money...how far you wanna go?

It's the same with anything; cars, boats, planes, equipment:  more miles/hours/use/abuse = more depreciation.  Not anyone elses fault we put multi-miles on our bikes; just the cost of having more fun.

Realize miles cost money.  I do not have an issue with that, or the people who ride there bikes 5~7 K a year.  Now a two year old bike has 10K or a bit more miles.  A lot different than the 2 year old bike with 1500 miles on it for sale.

Not a lot of cars out there at 2 years old with less than2K mils except some sports cars.

miles driven on bikes
« Reply #58 on: November 04, 2014, 11:54:21 AM »

bought my 14 cvo ltd in May 2014 with 5 miles on odometer,  had a car accident in May and unable to ride for 3 months....as soon as i had the stamina to ride long distance.  I started riding the CVO....i have 8,500 miles.  I own 2 motorcycles and a Challenger SRT8.  And i normally put 15,000 miles on my bike annually and as high as 20,000 when i had just one bike.  The CVO just had its shakedown cruise from Dallas to California...  I normally trade them when they reach around 45,000 miles....but i can now push them harder since i bought the 7 year total warranty (5 extended + 2 manufacturer warranty)....I normally sell them when extended warranty ends.....smart bet is the ESP with these fully electronic engines....not to mention compensator nuts and driveline components or lifters......My girl has commented why have 2 bikes and the Challenger SRT8 you cant ride them all the time....My response "just knowing they are available to ride or sitting in my garage" is all it takes to make me happy and i have been known to knock out a 6 pack polishing these beautiful toys

My wife asked some similar question of me about why so many toys. I said, one woman and many toys or should it one toy and many women? :D I can afford several toys but one woman is plenty to maintain$.
