To whomever commented that a Road King is the best touring bike because of it's versatility, I guess your idea of " touring " is just a tad different than mine. I've got an 03 SERK and my 07 RG and Dude, much as that SERK of mine is out of this world incredible, I'd hafta be nuts to take ole Elvis on a a four corners ride over LD, the big bad Dragon.

Big B,

Yup, everyone has different needs/opinions.  I personally like the flexibility of the RK by being able to "convert" to a different look/ride and still be able to "tour" by switching to a different windshield and attach the tourpak.  I guess I'm the one person who doesn't need the full time extra goodies to get me & my wife to wherever it is we're going.   Touring is different to everyone for sure.  Everyone's read/heard of folks that go cross-country on a Sportster...now, that's touring!  My wife & I also rode two-up for a helluva lot of miles on my WideGlide before I got the RK.  I guess it all comes down to the old packing/taking only what you need and not always being able to take what you want.  Same deal with the "glitter" items.  I for one think I can find my way out and back home again without aid from a GPS.  They are neat gizmo's....but, does one really need it?  I know, I know it's all OCD & I'll probably get my cheeks flamed for making the above comments....but, hey I gotta be different---just like everyone else.

Ride safe and enjoy the new year.    :)

I agree it is time to be built! 2008 SERG  [smiley=banana.gif] 120" motor, only hope is they do not put the leather tourpack on it.

Spider, I just want you to know I really appreciate sacrifices like that man.  Not everyone would endure that kind of bourbonilicious agony just to share someone's pain.  If I wasn't so pooped out from last night I'd be up pacing the floor in angst and worry feeling bad for all you went through.  Only a real bro would yank a nose hair for ya; and that means a lot  [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] !

I personally like the flexibility of the RK by being able to "convert" to a different look/ride and still be able to "tour"

Just re-read that and really noticed this line.  Can't disagree at all .  Over many years have actually covered perhaps too many miles on bikes I'd think twice about heading out long distances on today.  The whole "wing and a prayer" thing really must work sometimes.

I did ride Road Kings for a long time before going to the SEEG a couple years ago.  Never really thought twice about heading cross country on them.  Fixed up right very comfortable and I did like the flexibility.

That may be way I like the different things I can do with teh SEEG so much though.  Granted, the front body stuff is always there.  But I've come to like them quite a bit.  It took just a bit. But I did.  The rest, however, is very switchable.  No tour pak at all and just the Corbin backrests and it's the boulevard cruiser and weekend runner.  Just the chopped tour pak (probably it's best look) and it's still a sleek looking cruising bike that can carry a bit more stuff home.  Put on the King Pak and it's kind of the Family Trukster variant ready to go for as long as I can stuff tshirts in for.  All in all it works out pretty good with those options for about any urge, feeling or taste I might have for a bike to hop on.

Leather tour pack [smiley=nixweiss.gif] then I might think twice. Everyone has opinions, mine is it is chincy. Guess it is the MoCo's way of selling a painted tour pack for those of us who don't like the leather one.

Add to that it has to be detachable. I love my king tour pack when I need it, but for everyday riding I like the "draggin' bagger" look. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

It is funny how we get used to comfort and then cant imagine not having it.  I went across the country in 1994 on my FXR with a bag hanging over my backrest, sony walkman in my ears and a windshield, and i thought i was riding in style. Now i got heated seats, heated grips, electric vest, speakers and an amp, and GPS!!

Sometimes ignorance is bliss -- it's certainly cheaper!!

I think it is a case of as we get older we get wiser (or at least or bodies demand more comforts). ;D

Hoist,

You're gonna love that new RK.  Now the buying fun starts for you...one or two different windshields, tour-pak, back rests, etc (all detachable, of course)....make it yours and yours alone.  Your wallet's the only limit now.

 ez   ;)

To be honest, I'm not so sure Renea and I could travel long distance on any motorcycle other than an Ultra.  I remember many trips we had on the Softail.  WOW.  We thought we had it good then.  I think I could travel alone on a Softail, but it would take some getting used to.

I absolutely Loved my RKC but since my SEEG there is NO WAY I could ever see myself going back! It would be to me taking a step backwards! I'm just in one with everything about my nana. I am spoiled with all the extra comforts and I love the power and the ride. Only move I would think about would be a SERG! And I would have to keep my nana, so I doubt that will ever happen!
