Cam for 110"-113"
« on: January 02, 2015, 03:37:44 AM »

Ok guys I've searched for awhile thinking time for a new cam. Although I'm  happy with the SE255. I am going to build a 113" soon and would like a cam to compliment both displacements if one will. I have 2" Tru duals ( rinehart ) and like them.  ( won't be changing them ) That said I could care less about chasing #'$ on a dyno sheet. I would like a riders cam; good low, hard pull middle with just a smidge or more of roar up top! I don't mind a bump in C/R. I will be doing beehives, I would also like to stay chain driven.

So what do you think?

I would look at the T-Man 590 cams @ 10.8 - 1 compression.  Good low end - mid range power.  Valve train is not noisy.  Starts easy.

Who is doing the heads? I'd ask him after you've discussed goals/riding style, compression etc.

I was just going to change out the springs to lighten the seat psi a bit.  As I understand it these heads are pretty decent stock

I like the Fueling "Reaper" 574.
It has great mid range power, right where most of us ride. It pulls hard up to 6000 rpm.
I just had my engine rebuilt by Metal Dragon in Hayward, CA.
I recommend talking with Jim.

S&S 585 easy start.  Pulls very well right to red line,  comes on hard at about 2600rpm.   Great cam and very quiet to.

the 585`s will need 10.5-1+ to work and really come on later than your looking for.if your looking to a good bump down low, look at the S&S .583`s set at 9.8-1

I went the 585 route with the compression increase and increased disp. to 113 + a little more work and love it, what I give up down low is very little but once it passes 2500 rpm you had better be holding on. It all depends on how and where you ride, if all you are going to do is put around town at low speeds the stock school bus cam (255) is hard to beat. If you plan on pushing the bike to do what it was built for (IMHO) then something that makes a bit more power on top is called for.

A Wood 8 comes in sooner than the .585, and they both seem to run about neck and neck out the back door.
We use both here, for different applications.

The 113 kit will put you approx at 10.5 so the 585  is the most basic bolt in set in those terms.  DO a search on here with the 113 builds we along with many others have posted them in the past.  many cams and curves to look at.

Simple build for a  113  in the 2007 bike would be  585  cam and larger throttle body ( HPI 55)  ( your stock unit will be the bottle neck) will make 120/125 with ease.

Below is  a 110 with the 10.5 piston kit stock heads stock t/b very nice curve. As you can see the its making 100 tq dead out the hole and pulling  upward very quickly. SO adding 3 more CI will only enhance that curve.

Good luck on you upcoming build :)

Well being that the 2007 does not have  ACR installed as a factory item, You will need them so manual ( push the button each time) Find a shop that will machine ACR's buy them and wire them in. ( simple kit direct from HD) or run a S&S cam with ES.

If you're referring to a 2007 SE Ultra Classic, they came stock with ACR's...

Forum member Lever, has that, and more, and if you look around, you'll see that cam traditionally and historically produces about 15-20 more hp than the cubic inch, up to about the 113" level, set up properly.
We've seen approx. 100 hp and 100 ft/lbs from 80" Evo's, from that cam for instance, time and time again, for 16-18 years now.
